No - it really does stink. It stinks before it's cooked and it stinks once it is cooked. And it is vile.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

Whilst I can't argue with your experience, there are so many different flavours and textures in meat, I find it difficult to understand why someone could dislike them all, particularly with the limited experience of a young child.
Fish stinks while being cooked and at a Xmas lunch last week someone sitting next to me had salmon, which apparently was delicious but I had to discreetly swap seats with a friend who knows I'm not very good with people eating fish!

The only way I can explain it is if I am chewing meat the texture of it, taste etc. makes me think about what I am eating and it gets to me and my stomach turns and I want to spit it out. I can be a bit adverse to beans (baked, kidney etc) if I "notice" the texture while eating but other days I'm fine with them. I'm never fine with beef/lamb/venison or fish.

My DD has loved tuna from a young age but until she was old enough to open the tin herself she only had it when OH was here to open tin for her:rotfl::rotfl:. She also has to rinse the dish herself afterwards before putting in the dishwasher as I heave!!!

What's wrong about thinking about what you're eating?

(And why are you putting an empty tuna tin in the dishwasher?)

She wasn't - she had to rinse the dish herself...not the tin.

If you think what you are eating when eating a dead animal doesn't it put you off? To me it doesn't seem right that we pick and choose which animal we let live, like dogs, horses etc and which we kill and eat, like furry little lambs!!!:p Then there are veg that some bug has vomited on and some cat has !!!!sed on!

    As said "dish"!!!

I've never heard of a "semi vegetarian" before, so I wouldn't expect such a dietary preference to be accommodated.

Hard to tell, given the OP has been deleted, but if there is enough time before the big meal, it's worth getting in touch with the restaurant. They may be able to deviate from the set menu, even if all they can do is serve one of the meat dishes without the meat and some extra veggies.

Some ingredients will taste or smell the same no matter how they're cooked - I bloody well hate tuna, I have tried it many different ways but I can't get away from that overpowering cat food stench - but others change in taste and/or texture depending on how they're cooked. Beef, for example, can taste very different just depending on the cut and can change flavour completely when used as a carrier, rather than the main flavour of a dish.

OP, I would be tempted to keep trying to introduce your kids to different cooking styles, even if it that is restricted to asking them to taste a mouthful of something you've ordered/cooked for yourself. But if no joy, going forward, I would lose the "semi" and just refer to your lot as "vegetarians", as they don't sound that fussed about meat anyway and it's easier to sticking to a more mainstream food label, IYSWIM.

There is nothing more annoying on these forums than posters deleting an OP.

    From memory original OP was:
    • going to family party
    • had to pay £300 attend
    • food choice by venue was beef, lamb, veggie or fish and they could only have 2
    • organiser choose beef and lamb
    • OP family including children didn't like beef or lamb
    • Venue reluctantly agreed to provide a veggie in addition to beef and lamb

    :D

    You forgot:

OP thought the veggie option didn't look very nice so was having a moan that the organiser hadn't selected a fish dish instead of either the lamb or beef

Sounds like the venue have already been quite accommodating then?
