Tell me I'm being unreasonable...

  • OK so it would have just been easier if the OP had said her children don't eat red meat, rather than say they are semi vege (sorry OP but that is meaningless and only serves to confuse),

but that still doesn't mean that her children should have to eat red meat.

Oh and if you don't eat meat but do eat fish you are a pescetarian, but the majority of people don't have a clue what that means/have never heard the term before.

    Red meat like bacon?
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.
  • Sorry, I'm confused! Surely there would be a kids option anyway? Most hotels (yes, even the really expensive ones) include a more palatable option for children.

Her kids are teenagers though I think. Most kids options are for under 10s

I think you're being unreasonable (well you asked to be told!!!). Your (non vegetarian) children have the choice of two meats or a vege option - if they are too fussy to find any of those three options acceptable, then its hardly anyone's fault but their own.

(As an aside, I'd expect a bit more flexibility from a decent venue tbh, and I'd certainly be inclined to take my business elsewhere in future)

In my experience (honed through arranging events where Veggies/Vegans are present) most venues will accommodate almost anything if asked in advance. I would contact the hotel and ask for a simple fish dish, Salmon is very easy to cook, it really shouldn't be an issue.

Kids who don't eat beef or lamb aren't semi vegetarians, they're just fussy eaters.

bacon wasn't a given option by the restaurant so is irrelevant.

This reminds me of the time we stayed at a hotel with my parents during the period of of time my mum called herself a vegetarian.

She kicked off because there was two meat options for dinner and the vegetarian option had peppers in it (she genuinely can't eat peppers).

The hotelier offered to make her an egg dish but she doesn't eat eggs, so she did this big martyr act of being used to suffering for her principles and eating just the veg because she didn't want to put them out dah de dah .

I kid you not, they were heading up to their room later and the frazzled guy asked her what he could get her for cooked breakfast as she doesn't eat meat or eggs, and she said, 'oh don't worry, I'll have bacon for breakfast! I know I'm a vegetarian but I make an exception for bacon because it tastes so nice!'

Talk about the wanting the floor to swallow me up!

OP: your kids aren't semi-vegetarian, they just don't like certain meats. To outsiders, this kind of talk looks ridiculous. Say it how it is - don't dress it up!

Why? both meats are difficult to chew. My children have mild special needs which involve the taste and texture of food, the feeling of clothes and labels, lights, etc.

The dietician doesn't think it's strange for them to not like lamb or beef - she says it's very common.

I find it strange that so many adults don't like fish! I could understand personal tastes if it were slimy seafood but surely everyone could force down some simple white fish or salmon?

I find it bizarre that so many of my children's friends refuse to eat salmon - some don't even know what it is! And so many of them won't eat broccoli! Everyone has food fussiness to some degree. I don't like prawns.
