semi vegetarian is not an easy thing to pick up on, if she's seen your children eat chicken and pork, it's not unreasonable to assume they'll eat other farm yard animals xLittle Lowe born January 2014 at 36+6

They are old enough and well-mannered enough to eat what they can and keep smiling-that's not an issue, fortunately.
There is no way they could be persuaded lamb was pork. I can smell the difference on somebody's breath and I'm afraid they take after me...
Big round number for a parent, so turning up smiling is our only option!import this0 -
Well personally, if I'd been arranging it, I would have asked to see the menus/checked rigidity of ordering before booking - but you've been left with a fait accompli. Is is the birthday of your sister/her oh? In that case, I'd say that they should be able to choose.
However it's my experience that the main course is one third of the meal - I expect there is a first course plus dessert? Just tell the kids to eat the veggies etc of the main course, but enjoy the firsts and the afters! Don't make a big thing of it .....and take your revenge when it's your turn to have organise a birthday bash!0 -
There isn't such a thing as semi vege. They either don't eat meat or fish (that's both meat or fish, not either) in which case they are vege. Or they eat meat and fish. There is no middle ground. If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0

I've never heard of a limited menu outside weddings & similar events where the host is covering the cost of food, and what on earth kind of establishment charges you £300 for food but limits the choices to only 2 meat options???A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0

OK so it would have just been easier if the OP had said her children don't eat red meat, rather than say they are semi vege (sorry OP but that is meaningless and only serves to confuse),
but that still doesn't mean that her children should have to eat red meat.
Oh and if you don't eat meat but do eat fish you are a pescetarian, but the majority of people don't have a clue what that means/have never heard the term before.A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0 -
Are you staying over as part of the £300? If so, then I'd imagine that there would be enough food over the stay that they will like to put up with the lack of choice on the main course (plus there may be a tiny bit more flexibility when you're actually there in person, prior to the main meal).:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0
