That is good you mentioned the ethical side of things, the coop for me was always about how ethical they are, how they support many things around the world with that. I banked with them for my business and I remember all the questions they asked about the kind of business you were. I doubt any parking company banks with them, probably because of having ethical problems.

Just keep us informed on what they do

The thing nobody mentioned yet, and fully explains the issue is 'incompetence'.

ANPR kit has no malice, and if it misread a drive out, then the resulting claim is erroneous, nothing more. However, assuming anyone cared to prove their innocence, the OP would need corroboration that their vehicle was elsewhere during the period the PPC were claiming it was with them. Not always easy to do.

The DVLA are required under the DPA to supply details to anyone TA asks for them claiming a reasonable cause. So working up a frenzy over this is pointless.

Shop elsewhere, and ignore. Life is too short!

Yes great theory there, do you seriously think that the dvla looks at every single request for access to RK details ? ICO says they should but it doesn't happen, on average there is more than one request per minute 24 hours a day.

Also just saying shop elsewhere without complaining is really bad advice, if you get bad service complain to the company that matters, and that would be the retailer.

Heard back from my local Guardian newspaper. They are very interested in the story and agreed it's outrageous.
Met with their photographer this morning at the CO-OP and he took loads of pics of me with the fake invoice held up and of the store itself with their huge Free Customer Parking sign in CO-OP green & blue. This story might be next weeks edition and the paper is sold in the store so one member of staff is bound to see it and the manager may send it up to the H O which may add weight to the letter I have sent to the CEO.
The paper asked me to keep them informed of all replies I receive from CE,CO-OP,Trading Standards & my MP and to pass any comments on to them :T

Oh, that is funny. I'd be tempted to go along to their newstand and leave the paper open at that page...

    Very well done Kev!

Can you email these links to the journalist - these stories would be a good basis for your story - only tweaked to suit your issue:

    http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/car-news/consumer-news/61561/watchdog-reader-charged-ps150-not-parking

    http://www.falmouthpacket.co.uk/news/10129652.Ticketing_dispute_at_private_Falmouth_car_park/

The point being, that both articles are well written without calling the invoice a fine and with stuff like:

''These so-called fines, which are in fact private parking tickets as only the police and council have the authority to fine motorists, effectively invoice car park users because of a breach of contract.

Packet readers are advised to dispute any parking ticket that they think has been issued unfairly. Remember only the police or council have the authority to fine you.''

    :T
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

dont forget to mention that the store is resonsable for the actions of their agent, and that anyone who has paid charge notice.in that car ark, believing it to be legitimate should go to the co op store to demand.a refund in full.

Hi Coupon, thanks for the links. I have emailed them to the paper.

Half_way,yes,I wrote that in the letter to the CEO of CO-OP about the Law of Agency. I will also email that to the local paper but it's up to them if they choose to put that in or not. I've got a feeling they may back away from that one :(

I had forgotten that on the day I received the fake, I had complained to the CO-OP via their website.
Got an email reply Jan 3rd asking me to contact them to discuss it. Told then I'm not ringing them at my expense and that I've sent a written complaint to their CEO,TS,MP & the local paper is running the story this week.
Got a reply today asking for the PCN number and they will cancel it immediately
Strange though how store managers say it is nothing to do with them but their HQ's can cancel it straight away. Hmmnnnn!
Still haven't had any postal replies from anybody yet.

Can I ask...I haven't had a reply from Mike Butler or anybody else at DVLA.
    Is that usual?

Sometimes the dvla don't answer, but it takes time I've had messages a few weeks after. But well done on being persistent on this :)
