You don't seem to understand you placed yourself in harm's way. By calling the police in the presence of people who threatened you, you're taunting them to assault you to stop you from making that phone call. If they chose to assault you, the one who may seriously regret the confrontation is you. I do agree they've broken the law by threatening you but the way you handled the situation is dangerous.
Debt collectors are not employed by British Gas but a simple phone call to British Gas will sort out the mishap. They will look up your details on their system and British Gas will contact the debt collecting agency to remove the debt collectors. You're ignoring the fact the debt collecting agency is relying on information given to them by British Gas. Explaining the mistake on the utility bill to the debt collectors is an error in judgement. You chose the wrong audience to explain your situation to.
YOU WHAT?? Calling the police when someone commits a criminal act is placing myself in harms way? Are you stupid or what? I have already told you that SEVERAL phone calls to BG did not sort out the mess - it took SEVEN MONTHS! OF PHONR CALLS!
The way I handled the situation was certainly dangerous - to them! They fortunately ended up in the cells with no harm done. Had they pressed the matter further I have a legal right to protect myself, and I am quite sure that I coud have done so WITHIN THE LAW, which would only have entailed a few broken bones and a couple of (well trained) dog bites on their part. You really are a newbie, aren't you? You have no idea who I am am - or what I can do???

SarEl...I think you are going to explode. You come on this site to help others but perhaps are doing yourself no good at all?0 -

Debt collecting agencies usually hire large men due to their intimidating physique. What would you do if they killed your dogs and permanently injured you because they panicked knowing you're about to call the police? Yes they'd go to jail but the damage is done. It's all good knowing you have the legal right to protect yourself. Question is, can you really protect yourself if those debt collectors opted for violence? A lot of victims put criminals in jail but they remain unhappy as a consequence of the assault. When you have the choice to solve the situation peacefully and wisely, why choose the confrontation?
Who did you talk to when you phoned up British Gas? What was said in those phone calls? Sounds suspicious after so many phone calls you're still experiencing problems. British Gas has to be really stupid as a service provider to do absolutely nothing after numerous complaints to fix a mistake. Either you're lying, talked to the wrong people, or verbal communication broke down. I believe the latter is true. I don't think you're lying. British Gas are not monsters you make them out to be. If you're reasonable they are too.
The newbie comment... I shan't dignify that with a retort.0 -

Really? A circuit judge? With that level of English and such a poor knowledge of the law?
I doubt it.
I'm fast coming to the opinion that you're a troll, deliberately winding up a valued and respected member of this forum.
Muppet. Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -

Hah. Ok. Troll. On the ignore list. I shall now retire with my 2nd Dan in Judo and my two very large dogs - both of which statements happen to be true!0 -

1) I never announced my profession on this thread. You're trying to divert attention away from SarEl's error in judgement.
2) Do pinpoint where I've made a technical error on a point of law. I never applied any law on this thread. What I've stated is how a reasonable man should have acted.
3) I don't need you to believe or doubt anything about me. Your opinion about me is irrelevant to this thread's discussion.
4) How 'mature' of you.
5) Valued and respected according to someone who thinks it's ok to label others as 'troll' and 'muppet'.

"I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. " - Liam Neeson, Taken.

Its like a schoolyard here, trying to outdo unknown people on a forum. Gave me a laugh anyway.0 -
implied right of access
civil tort
with reference to the job advert, are they working direct for robbers way or on a self employed basis (commission)
what about data protection act issues and will the self employed collector need their own Consumer Credit licence due to the fact they cannot rely on robbers way implied licence.
what about people who are classed as vulnerable, and the legalities surrounding that area
Seems robbers way are reluctant to explain the finer details of the job description0
