Working for robinson way?

Options
Hi,

I saw an ad for making money working for robinson way debt collectors....ironic given a need a second job cos i owe money to too many banks!

Has anyone worked for them before? Is the money ok, they say you get 20% but what does that really mean? Also is the work safe, now im a big lad and i box but still i dont fancy getting a kick in for a gew quid.

I know they are a horrible type or organisation to work for so plaese dont judge me, needs must and all that.

Any advice welcome

The one and only time that debt collectors came to my home (I didn't owe the money, had explained it several times, and it was a utility bill error!) they didn't need to worry about either a "kicking" or the two large dogs I keep. They did have to worry about whether their employers would bail them out after I had them arrested! Never trespass on the property of, or threaten, a lawyer!

If you think being a big lad and boxing are useful qualifications, then you are entirely unsuited to this line of work. Find something else.

as I understand it these companies buy bad debts for pence in the pound, the employee is then collecting these debts on a commision basis.

Its all about intimidation and pressure into getting money out of the defaulted customers, be it having the legal right to pursue or not.

And that is how you get arrested! Intimidation is not a legitimate, or legal, method of debt collecting - or anything else. Stray over the boundary of what is legal and you can end up being prosecuted for it.

A certain physical "presence" does help.

I was more pre-empting any comments along the lines of - could you handle any threats etc when knocking on doors.

As it happens I have a professional IT job 9-5 and my verbal communication are excellent so I think that would be my best asset.

Also I assume you don’t box yourself, as if you did you would know that it teaches self-discipline, respect for others, and to never ever underestimate the person standing in front of you.

Anyway, we digress. I was more hoping to find someone who might tell me / us what it is like to work for them. I got the application form through today, I will think it over while having a look at what other evening work I can find.

Does four decades of judo count? Which teaches self-discipline, respect for others, never to underestimate the person in front of you - and don't put yourself in a situation which puts you at risk of violence in the first place.

See - you should never assume things!

If you are good, it will pay better than working in a pub. If you do not have what it takes you will barely cover your fuel costs.

I don't know if you'd be going door-to-door very much though. I have had many dealings with Robinson Way along with quite a few other debt collectors and I've never had any of their collectors on the doorstep. I've always dealt with them via the phone or in writing.
  • Judging by this thread I think that sarEl would be most suited to this job as they seem the most aggressive on here

Ah, well you should never judge just from one thread. SarEl is probably one of the least aggressive people on this board. She is assertive, confident, educated and knowledgeable though.
