Which vacuum cleaner should I buy?

You'd have done better with the Cat and Dog as you get the full sized turbo head.

You get the full size head with both. The only difference I could see was the weight (the one we have chosen is lighter) and a different type of filter. Other than the price I could see no other difference or reason to spend another £20The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -

No problem. After your post I popped back into the store to look at the C&D. Very annoyingly the tools on that one are not stored inside. There is a funny clip that goes on the hose with the 3 in, that would send me bonkers and be broken very quickly with my less than carefully hoovering technique;). I do wonder if the build quality is going down like with most things they seem somewhat 'cheaper' in quality than they used to. The S700 is not on the main miele site anymore (may be discontinued) but as I have been happy with my old one probably worth the punt. I'll see what it is like when I get it at the end of the week.
Quite tempted by the radiator brush to clean the venitian blinds in the future, hate doing that job so I tend to not do it.The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -
I've been looking at the Dyson on JL website and on special buy at 199 but haven't convinced myself yet.
I currently have a bag less upright Vax which is fine but the hose keeps coming away from the tube before that i had an electrolux. I have a mixture of flooring with laminate downstairs and carpeting upstairs except for the bathroom which is Lino. I find that I don't use my upright as an upright very often and generally use the wand attachment so am I better to buy to buy a cylinder one? I just looked at the Miele one which is also special buy, there are no reviews for it but there are for one which is slightly more expensive and they all seem to be pretty positive. I do dislike emptying the dust from my Vax into the bin cos it is always windy so it flies about everywhere when I empty it into my outside bin.
So go for a Dyson which I'm not sure about, people seem to really love them or really hate them or go for a Miele? I have tried MIL's old Dyson but I did find it pretty heavy to use, is a Miele a lot lighter/easier to use?
Thanks. (I should be decluttering not lurking on here...oops)0 -
I have a Vax Mach Air Pet/Family (I only have the pets not the family though
).
It's one that's actually made under licence from Dyson so all the technology is similar (and it looks very much like one).
I've found it to be excellent - it's very small and very light, which is good for me as I'm not very big and hate carrying hoovers upstairs. It's bagless, and because of the size it does fill up very quickly but it's so effective, I don't mind. It has a brilliant turbo switch which picks up pet hair really well - there is another pet hair brush attachment but i've never needed to use it.
I have mostly hard floors now but it worked brilliantly on carpets too in my old house. It was recommended to me by one of my pupils' mums as there are 2 of them with long blonde hair, plus 3 cats and 2 dogs.
The only downside (other than the frequent emptying out) is that the hose is pitifully short for putting attachments on, so cleaning coving/anything high up is a pain in the !!!!.
Other than that I love it. I would have had the Miele but couldn't stretch pricewise - sounds like a good deal on at the moment though!0 -
I have a dyson, have had it for 10 years, get it serviced by Dyson every 2 years, costs me £73 and includes parts changed.
I would not use anything else, the Vax I had was useless, the hoover even worse and the Henry I used did not pick up properly.....Dyson for me every time!!0 -

£73 every two years sounds very expensive. What exactly are they doing to it anyway?0 -
I have had a dyson for years, though it is very heavy.
After reading the Which reviews I will go for a Miele.Money SPENDING Expert0 -
I would vote for Dyson every time - but with one proviso - they do need to be taken apart and cleaned; just did this yesterday for our neighbour who was skipping hers, popped the hose from the brush bar and removed a ton of dead dog, result one amazed owner who has returned the brand new replacement. Dyson deliberately designs the machine so that you can service them like this at home (anything that is not the standard grey is colour coded to show you that you can fiddle with it yourself - regardless of the model). And the helpline really does help unlike lots of other manufacturers!0

I bought a Dyson the animal ball one recently in NOvember cost alot I thought but as I have 2 labs and we are asthmatic I felt a good investment. I also had a car accident around a year ago and have neck problems felt the ease of the ball would help. OMG how wrong - the thing is useless. It does move easily and is easy to get under the table round chair legs etc but does NOT pick anything up. Seems to need to go back and forward to disstraction to collect pet hair yet it an animal. It is rubbish a total waste of money. We have a Hetty we have upstairs (dogs dont go there and our young daughters love her lol) and my husband has taken to using that all over house as he refuses to use the Dyson - says it cr*p !! We have always had dysons and been impressed but this new one is terrible so all I can say is dont bother!0
