I stumbled across this whilst also looking for the telephone number as I wanted to cancel my Barclaycard
No success for me....I was offered 0% for a year, free balance transfers etc but I have no need for any of this. Thought I'd hold on and see if any cash incentive and nothing :-(
    Oh well, worth a try

tried twice. Didnt get anything. Went ahead to cancel.

Offer is for those that have paid interest on their balance. A kind of refund.

Just rang Barclaycard to cancel after 18 months 0% purchases rate ran out. The man on the phone was trying to persuade me to stay with balance transfers etc. I said that I wasn't happy with the negative publicity re LIBOR etc. He then offered me £50 credit on my account to "appease" me.

    Has anyone else encountered this?

Not exactly, but I was offered 12 months interest-free spending to not lose my custom. I accepted this offer feeling it was good for me. I had fully intended to cancel my card, but ...
  • I cancelled mine yesterday and they didn't offer me £50 :( . I just wanted to close the account but was talked at for half an hour before I got a bit annoyed and the bloke finally said it will be cancelled.
Nothing to see here, move along.

    Just off the phone.
Was transferred to the 'Loyalty Dept/Section' where I got a very hard sell for me to upgrade to some kind of cash back credit card.

    The incentive wasn't £50, but 10500 'points'.
After telling him six times that I wasn't interested, he finally got the message and said my account was closed and I'd receive a letter of
    confirmation.

I wish I'd just cancelled the card by letter instead of phoning!

I assumed the points were some form of redemption for receiving cash back in relation to how much you spend on your card.
I don't know what the rate of points to money is as all I wanted was to cancel my card.

The Barclaycard site may carry this information

I rang to cancel my Barclaycard as I hadn't used it for some years, and I only use credit cards when I get 0% on purchases. Once I mentioned this I was offered 0% for 12 months, which is ideal for me and saved me applying for a new card with someone else! no £50 though!!!!!!

Still £50 available if you ask to leave. Went to cancel and barclaycard CS offered the £50 to keep account open to spend as I want. I wasn't even planning on closing it. Just tried my luck and instant £50 showing! :D

Tried this recently and got nowhere. I even asked for money. Best I could get was 0% on new purchases for a year.
