Universal Jobmatch - Mandatory from next year

As an outsider who has browsed the JCP website for the last 18 months or so looking for a potential opportunity to change employers, I have tio say the new site is complete and utter garbage.
The last one wasn't great but at least you could sort the jobs properly.
I want something closer to home but now there is no way to sort by distance from postcode or area.
The option to choose a certain type of work in the old website was great. I don't want t work in sales, I can't work in certain obs due to disability so being able to search for specific job types was great.
I feel sorry for anyone who has to use that site. As per usual with any Government software implementation, it's a complete and utter farce.
I can see why people are worried about ID theft. From my understanding you have to upload a CV. How secure is the site? What if someone gets hold of your CV. They have your name, address, date of birth, education history, work history and other information that they can use to commit various offences.
I'm just glad I don't have to use it.
The new search does take a bit of getting used to, however it's not that much different, all they have done is moved all the refine search options to the left hand menu.
People don't have to upload CVs, Anyone who does knows that CVs aren't public unless you chose them to be viewable by potential employers. Its exactly the same thing members of jobsite.co.uk can do, if they choose to.0 -
This site has nothing to do with trying to find vacancies for jobseekers.
It has one aim, and that is to find a way to sanction you.
If you listened to IDS you would know this. Here is a thread which he states that he will try to trip up anyone who gives the dwp permission to see their ujm data.
I use UJS 2/3 times a day every day. Since registering (9th dec) I've been lucky enough to receive 4 job interviews through the site. unfortunately none were successful. but then I've bothered to invest the time and effort learning the system. which included phoning the Jobcentre for advice if I didn't understand a specific area. Has anyone else bothered to invest this much time? I doubt it. Anyone willing to invest the time will be rewarded by the system. but as I've said before it is in no way perfect.0 -

there must be a better way to communicate rather than posting multiple times
lol
krok I cant help but get this feeling your not a fan of UJM?
As I see it all they have done is move the system from paper to electronic. The way they are able to sanction someone is no different than the sanctions issued if they kept to the old paper way. Does anyone really believe an advisor has time to check up on all their clients every day? I seriously doubt it.
Noone is ever going to be issued a sanction without due cause. And I have almost been sanctioned, I was just lucky enough to prove that I had emailed my cv to employers after forgetting to record it on my paper job search diary.0 -
Don't upload your actual CV. Don;t trust government. Will they compensate you for fraud committed with your details? Na!
Better to create a Word document with "CV available on request - please email xxxx.co.uk" You can then apply for jobs, thus satisfying the stupid JCP regime.0 -
Great idea; JS are fully entitled to know what people are doing to find work; and lets face it, the effort required in the typical 'Jobseekers Agreement' is practically nothing anyway. Anyone not even applying for the number of jobs they have agreed to deserves to be sanctioned - just like they agreed.
This isn't going to catch anyone out who is genuinely looking for work - and it may not help the unemployment figures either, but it'll hopefully make some inroads to weeding out some scroungers.Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0 -
1% increase is more of a payrise that many workers have had over the past years. Lucky to get that0

So I signed on today and was asked did I know about the universal jobmatch site which I said yes I'm already signed up and have applied for fair few jobs already on there, to which his faced picked up and replied 'oh what's you're 16 digit login number? I said I didn't know it off by heart which I genuinely didn't so then he asked me for my email address which I reluctantly gave him as I just couldn't be bothered piping up and making a scence about data protection etc as it was busy. Will they now be able to look at my profile just from knowing my email address??0
-
Yes they will. As well as any jobs you apply for your advisor can flag jobs you should/must apply for. Also you should keep an activity log for the other things you have done to aid getting a job,eg looking on other web-sites ,writing a c.v.. the c.v. can be uploaded and viewed by employers who can invite you for interview and I suppose woe betide you if you refuse.
Just a word of warning, I struggle to log in on my Chrome browser and have to use explorer, the web-site just won't accept my correct log in details otherwise.0
