Debenhams sale on now

With HMV collapsing and talk of more companies going to the wall in the coming months, I am now very wary of online shopping at all (except with the usual credit card £100+ S75 protection).
If Debenhams hadn't yet refunded someone's money and went into administration tomorrow, what would happen?
It is quite scary really how many companies have gone. Like you it makes me very wary.
Wonder how many more well known names will disappear this year and who they will be?0 -
Well after speaking to my bank I rung Debenhams on a long rant, they assured me customers who received the 'unable to fulfil' email had their payment automatically reversed. The reversal means that funds still show as clearing for 3-5 days due to their banking systems. I made my payment on Friday, and received the cancelled email around one hour later, due to the weekend the latest my payment will be returned is Thursday. I hope this is the case or I will be ringing again.
Shoddy service on their part, I felt like a union rep on the phone telling the guy I was fully aware their error with stock levels or pricing had affected hundreds of customers. With the systems and technology these days payments should be able to be reversed within 24 hours and be back in your hands. Payment doesn't get taken until the goods are ready for dispatch or they properly monitor their website, stock levels and such. I'll be hard pushed to pick up a bargain at Debenhams again, I'll definitely think twice.
Hope everyone gets their money back by the end of Friday!!The Year Of DreamsBig Love To All Comp Sharers

The trouble is with card payments they take one or two days to take the money out, because of the systems in place with bank/visa/mastercard etc etc, so it follows refunds/reversals using the same system are going to also take time similar amounts of time unfortunately.
A refund for example may be sent/made straightaway, but it's going to be a few working days before the money goes back in, because of the payment systems rather than a fault at the retailer.
There has been great progress the last few years with much faster bank account to bank account payments, I am hoping card payments are next on the list to be improved.
Companies should stop taking money on receipt of order and start charging when things are dispatched.0 -
Beware... some stuff on their website (le creuset sale) is STILL not available - they are continuing to take people's money for items which they have known for a week they don't have! I've placed and then had cancelled a further order today, apparently after the website/stock problem has been fixed... About £120 of my money is now tied up with them. They've ignored five emails and frankly, I'll never shop with them again.
Can you tell I'm cross?!0 -

I replied to their e-mail to say it was another disappointing experience, they replied to say that when the item is in stock, they will supply it at the sale price, whatever price it is listed at when back in stock.
So you may want to give that an go.0 -
A company's T&Cs do not supersede the law of the land, though.
I'm genuinely not 100% sure of the law on contracts surrounding online shopping, can anyone shed any light on this?
"The law of the land" states that a contract is formed at a point agreed by the parties to the contract. In agreeing to the terms and conditions, you agree that the contract is formed at the point of dispatch.0 -
Debenhams are rubbish and are always doing this. I won't buy from them online nowadays after previous fiascos.0

Got an apologetic email today but it is too late. There are lots of other places to shop.0
