For those interested in the UK Online offer - beware it is a data stream service, which means if you switch ISP's you will be out for a week. See also my post on another thread at : http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=449930&postcount=139
This thread has some very interesting info as well !!

Have you switched to UK Online that you know the time scale? or is this week if you switch from UK Online to someone else?

UK online have three areas where I am that enable the £9.99 tarriff which is looking pretty attractive to me in a couple of months when I can change suppliers.

No engineers go to your house. They send you through a modem and some line splitters and activate your line. The activation can take around 10 days.

I read on the "Cheapest Broadband Provider" thread that if you switch from a Datastream supplier to IP Stream, this causes a problem and it is at least 1 week before you can get sorted out. I am sure if you are changing from BT to another IPStreamthen it is no problem. But I am only telling you what has been quoted. The general opinion seems to be avoid Datastream like the plague. However I am not a techie, but am sure TOG and others can give more facts.

I changed from BT to UKOnline and had 11 minutes downtime. I am not sure about the way back but I have heard BT is doing trials on migration from Datastream to IPstream so easy migration might just be around the corner. And as UKOnline is a 12 Month contract anyway the problem will be sorted for me by the time I can move anyway.

If you want some serious downtime just try leaving Tiscali

Totally disagree. Bt refused my mac code so my connection date was set back by 2 weeks. Ukonline refunded my money and actually aked me what date best suited me for the direct debit.

I dont know how you could be on hold for so long as they have a system that means if your call doesnt get answered within a few minutes then you automatically get put through to an answer machine.

I have never had any hassle getting through to sales, tech support or thier tracking department. Once I got put through to the answer machine and I left my details and got a call back within 30 Minutes.

They usually send you an e-mail telling you when your modem will be dispatched and if it is late then you can ask for a refund. One thing to remember is that usually your first payment is taken by WORLDPAY unless you set up direct debit from the start although it was Ukonline support that gave me my refund. Maybe you should wait and see if your Modem turns up on the 5th before trying to get a refund.

Myself and 5 friends have joined and none of us have ever had any problem getting through to people or having any problems sorted. 2 of us have actually been given a staff members own mobile number to contact him as he was dealing with our troubles. I know this because I got his wife before I got him.

i have ukonline from 30th april. the line drops EVERY 5 MINUTES.you can set a clock by it. it will drop before i type this as i am very slow it has dropped i have been billed from 25th april even though the modem was not sent out until 28th i have e-mailed customer care and tech support the last reply i got was on the 4th at 12.55 nothing since.this e-mail said that an engineer would phone me he hasn't
iwas particularly interested in part of the e-mail which said and i quote exactly ''The Ukonline service is also a consumer product, this means that the service does not come with a Service Level Agreement, and as such we do not have to fix your fault in a certain time.
i told ''Emma'' at customer care that i would be posting a message on this site
but that does not seem to bother her much as she hasn't even contacted me to find out if the problem has been fixed . so much for customer care

could this fault have anything to do with this ''datastreaming ''that i read in another post . i was ,in fact still am as i didn't cancel because of this problem ,and the monthly payment was taken on 6th,,i was with V21dial up 56k modem at £9.99. i dont see that this could be the problem as the modem is not connected .
i sent Emma an e-mail today so with any luck i might get a reply tomorrow
i'll let you know. in the meantime i thought that i should let youall know that i have this problem and that ukonline is not as good as it makes out
sorry to ramble on so much .this is the first time i have posted

    brilliant site
i will of course have to connect again as the line went down ages ages ago

Have you tried checking your line filters?. Do you have a SKY box plugged in? there could be many reasons for the line to drop out that would not be UKOnline fault. Why dont you phone tech support and get them to run through your settings with them?
