Interesting reading that chart isn't it? I can't believe that we're nearly at the end of the 3 years. It's almost my payday so I will have another couple of % off the total! Not forgetting that we don't have a council tax payment this month OR the water rates this month.

February's good like that. Though our tax disc renewal coincides with that happy month, so the money we would have spent on council tax and rates, we end up spending on the car instead.

March is a similar story - the older two's annual trip to the vet.

On the first post you have got 1st April 2010 so guess that is what it was. I think we should do the last update around the 11th April to get as many updates as possible.

Shame we have a few that has not updated for a while do you think I should PM them and ask if they want to update one final time. I know peoples circumstances have changed but unless you are on an interest only mortgage surely the balances will have come down. I was also thinking of doing a chart just with the current people on it to see how that would look.

As for white tutus no thank you but I have got two freecycled kitten harnesses so I shall be training them to come for a walk.

If you get the chance then yes PM those who have not updated.

I agree that circumstances will have changed for many people who read this thread but even if they have reduced their mortgages by only a small amount, its still a reduction.

Not all goals will be reached but at least being part of this challenge and seeing the chart updated regularly has given us the kick up the backside to do something about the biggest debt we'll ever have ( hopefully ).

Anyway good luck to everyone in the last few weeks, we've all achieved whatever happens

  • Hi All,
I have been off radar for the last year or so and haven't updated since my Mum died. Last year went so quickly and was a whirlwind of births deaths and marriages so not all bad news!! Unfortunately haven't made an overpayment on my mortgage for nearly a year but the statement dropping into my letterbox this morning spurred me on to make a small overpayment (only £15, but it all helps), and have vowed to make a small overpayment every month from now on. I know this challenge is nearly finished but I will update Tallgirl so that I can be counted on the last chart.
Hope you have all achieved what you wanted to or at least some small amount like me, I know i am pleased to have started this challenge even if i didn't achieve my goal at the end of it.
    Best wishes to all,

  • have up and down months, but trying to find ways of overpaying without 'noticing' IYSWIM?

get paid tomorrow and have just 'created' over £200 to pay off - including this months council tax money, a months free pet insurance, the difference between change in utilities bill, quidco due and money saved by buying shopping vouchers.

also trying to up the ebay listings, as this really is FREE money!
  • Woohoo! I hit my target this month - managed to pay off over £18k since the start of the challenge! I will try and get it down to £20k paid off before the challenge finishes. Unfortunately the company I work for has "forgotten" to pay my overtime for the past 2 months running so I only got my basic salary the last 2 months, and Xmas was expensive last year so budget is a bit stretched ATM.
