Thanks for your good wishes everyone. I'm really looking forward to the day and am getting quite excited about it. We haven't gone mad with the wedding but it is still costing about £8k. My dress was half price in the sale, but was still £450. I made the invitations myself and probably saved about £100 on them (they are really fab!) My bridesmaid is nearly 7 and my wonderful sister has made her dress. It will have cost under £50 and is brilliant, real princess stuff. We both have a son each, and their suits are from M&S, with shirts and waistcoats from BHS. These will all go on ebay after the day. The ceremony is at 4pm and we are having a buffet. That way, we only have to feed our guests once. ;) We will be taking our own wine to the venue, and even after the corkage charge, we reckon this is a cheaper option. One of our guests is a wedding photographer and he is very kindly taking pictures for us. Our venue is owned by the local council and is costing £500 to hire for the day and evening. We aren't bothering with fancy cars. The venue is very close to the hotel we're staying the night at so we are just getting a regular taxi there. We are honeymooning in Scotland but we are splashing out on some lovely hotels whilst we are there. I think that is about it for the MSE stuff. It really is amazing how much can be spent on a wedding. It seems the word 'wedding' doubles the price of most things!

Make sure the hotels know you're on honeymoon (like mentioning it's funny new and strange being called MRS when you check in.;)- if they are decent hotels in the first place then you may get a few little extras.

It's nice up here at the moment - kids aren't off school yet, the weather is alright, and the scenery is great - looking very lush at the moment.:D

Yes we will do, in fact OH has booked them and I'd be surprised if he hasn't already mentioned when he booked that we will be honeymooning. Can't wait!

  • Hope your wedding went well and you are having a lovely time on your honeymoon Chickadee!

I am looking forward to payday next week not that it will be much but at least I have earned something. I am still waiting for a start date for my new job, all the OH, CRB checks, mandatory training etc to go through then I will be up and running. We all got a phone call last week saying our place is closing at the end of the year so I am so relieved I managed to find a job, there are still projects going on but some get panned before they get off the ground and as I am an agency worker there is no guarentee anyway.

Thankfully I have been living on a shoestring for the last 3 years and we have been able to accomodate the drop in income for a short while until things pick up again. I have had a few expenses this month too...had to update the wills as BIL getting divorced and I need to get ex-SIL off the old will as she is a fruit and nut case. Hedge need trimming too so getting a guy in for that and also guttering needed fixing. Luckily I have a bit put by for emergencies and we have been ok.

I am looking forward to the next update, this month I have managed to (just) keep within my food budget of 250 quid as veggies are coming through now in the garden but the freezer and store cupboards are getting low so I am looking forward to getting some money in so I can do a big shop.

One more week to go till payday! I am planning a lasagne which should last 2 days, got a big bag of baking spuds from aldi which will last us the week and the trusty sprouter is doing its thing on the windowledge with some mung beans in! The SC has a leg of lamb (I got it cheap at xmas, the meat off it is going on the bbq in the form of kebabs today!) for soup tomorrow and tuesday so we should get by.

Its been a squeeze this month but the contingency plans/ storecupboard stash/ emergency funds have all been our safety net so we can carry on with our goal. Phew!
