Maybe he could retrain as a kayaking or scuba diving instructor shazzany?

Then he'd be able to work whatever the weather.:p From clouds make silver linings.Or buy a submersible pump and rent it out to the course.?

Even though it was a horrendous year for your income, you still managed to overpay, and have been left in a better position if your household income drops further because of poor weather (golfers are not easily put off though by a bit of weather though.:D)

we r very glad 2 now have only a small mortgage. have got back from hols 2 find the golf range where my ( self employed) OH works is flooded. Again!!!!

No excuse for closing the range - have the bosses no imagination? How about Extreme Scavenger Swim - contestants (after signing waiver to say they won't sue if clobbered with a golf ball ;) ) swim, dodge balls and collect as many as they can in 30 minutes, thereby saving the range the effort of collecting them?

On a serious note. good to see the MFIT having a positive affect :T
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

  • I've just got back off my holidays and disturbingly I managed to spend double what I'd budgetted. Gah. How annoying. However I couldn't really help it as I was part of a big group and bossy of the crowd decided we should all pay 100Euros for the food kitty. Having just spent 60quid on diesel too to get there my spending budget was pretty much blown on the first day. I had a nice relaxing time though and having got back and sorted my finances out (shuffled money about from various savings accounts) I now feel like I'm back in control again. I'm nearly at the 220k mark which will be nice to pass (next month) I'm actually on
220169.92 at the moment. Would be nice to just pay that so that I'm below but I just can't find the extra this month.

Well done to everyone who's now below one of their big milestone targets :)

Esthomizzy - before you go away next time, volunteer to do the food shopping for everyone - especially since you take your car- then you can go to Netto or Lidl, ot the Euro equivalent and buy cheap food, and take great delight handing everyone their change at the end of the holiday! Take a diesel allowance for going to the supermarket too!.:p

Now the school holidays are over, I thought it was time to refocus my attentions to the goal of reaching £ 20000 by April 2010.

Its been hard these last few months, we've been saving hard, but not for the mortgage, so we could have plenty of spends for our family holiday.

We hope to be down at around £ 38000 by the end of the year, which means that we will have paid off £ 18000 this year alone. Although we still need to sit down and work out how we can achieve this !!

    Thanks for reading my waffle

HM- I hope you enjoyed the holiday - looking at your sig you've already paid off over 14K this year - that's an incredible achievement, but we do have to have a bit of balance and you're right to save hard to play hard at the holidays - in years to come we'll all be able to have bigger holidays every year because we have no mortgage to spoil our travel dreams!:D

Good luck HUGH, I'm sure you'll find a way to get that money together, though it'll probably be harder to motivate yourself to save for that mortgage than for a groovy holiday. ;)

  • Thanks Ailuro2 and DD,

Had a brilliant time, it cost us a small fortune, but we all need a break some time.

We've had 3 fantastic holidays to Orlando in the last 5 years but have decided to concentrate on paying the mortgage off so its back to camping holidays in the UK. Let's hope we actually get a summer next year !!!

Anyway off playing golf today, I'm not very good but I've been asked to play as they are desperate.

I will update my sig later this week.
