talking of groceries.....i usually shop at asda as it is nearer but they will only take 10% max off your bill in coupons (you don't have to buy the item as long as they sell it).

meanwhile, tescos seem to take more - i am currently buying £10 of groceries at a time and getting £5 off in coupons! even better at the mo as the items i am buying are already half price:j

On the what's the cost website- on the mortgage calculator, then details link, do just I scroll down to where I see my current outstanding balance to check what portion of it is interest, and what is repayment? Is it that simple, or did I miss something?

Desperate Housewife - take your time with the matched betting, I've got started successfully now, but its my third look at it, over about 8 months. Don't worry.

I ditto this I was lucky to have Tim walk me through it or I dont think I would have taken the jump into it. It is however facinating and it is all about getting free bets and maximising the profits. I have a free £10 and I was looking to get the best possible return. The clever cloggs on the MB board tells me it should be min retunr of £8 so 80% but the best I could do tonight on the football as £7.25 so I did not do it. As I said it becomes addictive and is totally risk free if you start slowly and check everything.

It looks like we will be paying off some extra on the mortgage (or offsetting it). OH has taken redundancy, he will leave this job on Thurs & starts a new job on Mon, he will have a few £k left from the redundancy once we have bought a new car (currently has a company car) which we will either offset or pay off our car loan (depends on how much it will cost to pay it off)....

then the new job is contracting so we will have an extra 2k + per month to pay towards the mortgage. We are planning on moving in 18 months so we want to get the current mortgage down as low as possible ready to start again!!!

  • Good luck with the contracting Jackomdj.

If he's going umbrella then it won't matter but if you're starting off with your own limited company then remember to keep money aside for Corp Tax and VAT....plus an emergency fund.

If you're offsetting then your emerency fund will work nicely for you.

    Best of luck

  • Just paid another £500 overpayment. Inc. this month's mortgage payment it's now under £116k!!! For some reason the standard monthly payment wasn't reduced this month from last month even though I got a letter in early Jan saying it was going down again after the December overpayment so I will have to call Nationwide about that.

A lot of umbrella schemes were made illegal in the last budget, so he might have to look at other options.
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D

Thanks for the messages. He is actually going the ltd company route this time. Last time he used an umbrella company but as you say they are no longer the goverments flavour of the month.

Keepng money aside won't be a problem as we will be offsetting most of our mortgage with our savings. Currently mortgage is £75.5k, we have savings of £27k & we are using £16k of my parents money to offset (Lloyds you can use other peoples bank accounts). So net mortgage of £32.5k
By Feb 09 our net mortgage will be £0 (using Mum & Dad's £16k) & by July 09 all things going to plan it will be £0......this ties in with our 18 month plan to move. Then we will buy a big house & start all over again!!!

It seems it's more just Contractors full stop

Your OH may want to consider checking out the Professional Contractors Group, just so you keep on track with your plans. They offer a lot of good advice & deals on insurances etc.

Good luck wth your target dates and all the best with the contract.

    Best wishes

    Good news!!

I have claimed tax back on the money I have spent on business miles since April 2002. Received around £3000 and that went straight into my Offsett account.
I have also remortgaged today and reduced my interest rate by 1.26% which will make me further savings.
All this brings me right on target to reduce mortgage down to £100000 by April 2010.
I also might have an offer of 11 months salary voluntary redundancy on the table by next week. If I can find another job within next 3 weeks I might go for that which will reduce my balance by a third.
So, if anyone know of a well paid job in their company somewhere in Yorkshire please let me know ASAP.
