  • Had some good sucesses this month. Finally got paid a load of overtime owed to me from summer last year that I struggled to get since changing departments. Picked up an extra £700 thanks to this :j

Also had a cheque for £215 from reclaimed MEAF  . This is so easy I would recommend everyone have a go.

On the flip side I had to buy a new set of tyres for the car at £176, and got our boiler repaired today at a cost of £241

Oh well, still up overall and guess where it is going.....

  • So how is this meant to work exactly? Three years sounds awfully optimistic.

    Hi Flullymummy
If you take a look at the second post you will see that not everyone is paying off their mortgage in 3 years as you are right that would be optimistic. I am aiming to clear mine and pretty much on track and this thread spurs me on. I can see you have some debts to clear first but then you are more than welcome to join us if you want.

  • Hi Kaz2904, nice to see you pop onto the board for an update.

I've just done a bit of a stooze with A&L for £4650 0% till October, 3% bt fee but worked out will save £115.50 by leaving it in my virginone account ;)

Stoozing seems to be thin pickings what with the credit crunch coming and BT fees but if you go on quidco there are some tidy offers for opening up bank accounts. I got £50 for opening up A&L current account and they have a savings account attached with 12% interest! Also if you apply for a goldfish card you get £41, I've got around £120 to got through on quidco...worth a peek.

I need to pull my finger out and close my A&L account so that I can reopen it in 3 months time. DH's is soon to run out of the good interest rate.
Been looking at holidays for a few days and we should be able to do it for very little money or even for free.
I've got the stooze going now but think that I will prbably chuck everything I can do at an ISA. I will only do this if I can beat my interest rate (obviously!). So I do have a plan, just need to pull my finger out and keep my hands in my pockets!

i have just discovered thw 'whatsthecost' website! i have heard many on the dfw board mention it for snowballing, but have never visited before.

i had a nose and there are also mortgage and savings sections too. the mortgage one is great as it shows you month by month how much of your payment is capital, how much is interest and how it changes - so i could check how much ahead i am!;)

i have just had a bit of back pay and so have paid a bit more off the mortgage. i am determined to hit my target (£8,333 for the year), and would really like to hit my mental target of £10k.

i am also a year+ ahead thinking of what we might be down to this time next year when we have to remortgage again. ie. how many years will we be able to reduce it to again/up the payments? it will be down to 15 then and i'm guessing i'd like to move it down to 8!

i am also looking forward to seeing my annual statement for the first time ever!
  • Just checked out sazzacat's 'whatsthecost' website and it looks good, played around with the mortgage amounts and length of time etc, interesting to see how much you can save by paying off early ;)

I'm joining in the feb grocery challenge on the os board this month to see if I can save anything, looked at matched betting again but it seems too much for me so I'll pass on it, might look again later on when brain is actually engaged (if that ever happens :))

Desperate Housewife - take your time with the matched betting, I've got started successfully now, but its my third look at it, over about 8 months. Don't worry.
