lol, free room, food and clothes - going to prison is VERY MSE!
I wonder if you'd get a council tax rebate too? :rotfl:
I think your OH is probably offsetting his income tax - that's what I've been doing. It's great right up until you have to pay the tax and then your offset amount goes down and what you owe on the mortgage goes up (as my signature now shows)Mortgage Free in 3 Years (Apr 2007 / Currently / Δ Difference)

From a distant and obscure memory, I'm pretty sure you don't have to pay Council Tax whilst you're in prison, unless you've been sent to prison for non-payment of Council Tax, in which case it keeps adding up...
Why do I know such rubbish stuff?!
On the positive side, Halifax finally paid me my £100 switching bonus for their current account, so I've now phoned to close the account. It will help replace some of the emergency savings that were swallowed up by the boiler replacement, so no extra mortgage overpayment as was the original plan.
Let's keep it up, everyone, and roll on another Bank of England rate cut on Thursday!Mortgage Free thanks to ill-health retirement0 -

At least you self employed people get the opportunity to do some good with your money prior to handing it over - I wish I could opt out of PAYE!!!!
In fact I think I have the worse of both worlds as just done tax return (for BTL) - tax for that budgeted for and predicted BUT they haven't calculated mine or OHs student loan deductions correctly so now they want another £36 from me and £255 from OH!!!
I know its not a huge amount and we have to pay it off anyway but I'm annoyed as they said at the time as it was their fault for not starting on time (we phoned and told them!) we woudln't be asked to make back payments. And you aren't as long as you don't have to do a tax return so it seems a bit unfair.
Grr . . . might write and complain if I can be bothered to pay for the stamp!
