Hi minimocow,I thought this was the best way for me to use the money.
Before I started this challenge it would have gone on silly things that we didn't need or really want at least this way I see something for my money.
On another note since we were paid last friday,(DH & I work for the same company)we haven't touched our wages,we are living on money left over from before xmas + a few ebay sales,
Myself I would love to go into town and look round the sales but I know I will be tempted to buy something, but I begrudge parting with any of my hard earned money, does that make me tight?;) .
    Good luck every one.amazamum

I've made another maximum allowed overpayment to Nationwide, bringing my mortgage down to £40,400, from £42,900 when we started. And I've sorted the way they suddenly changed how they were dealing with my overpayments, so the craziness shouldn't happen again. Off now to pm Tallgirl.

Some great updates on here, well done :) Make sure you all PM TallGirl with your updates before the 15th January so that you are included on the up to date chart.

I have had a look at my chart (which includes info up to October 2007) and those that are in the 'drop' zone if no update is received for the next chart are member numbers 02,04,05,12,18,34,36,40,41,42,46,49,56,57,58,62,67,68,73,74,80,95,97,99,100,106,107 and 112.

New members from 119 onwards as well could you please PM TG with an up to date balance, I appreciate for some of you it will be the same as you have only recently joined but that way we can still class you as 'active' members.

If you are one of those listed above and have already PM'ed TG fantastic, if you are listed above and have not yet updated TG then please make sure you do before 15th January otherwise your details will be removed from the charts.

There are 25 members whose details have already been removed from the charts, if you are one of those (ie have not updated since July of last year) and would like to be added back in then please PM TG with your latest outstanding balance and your member number (found on post 1) and you will be reinstated.

Looking forward to seeing how much has collectively been paid off by everyone.

  • Have PM'd TallGirl with my update, but thought I'd add mine in here as well. Seriously attacking my mortgage was one of my 2007 New Year's Resolutions and it's the only one I've actually stuck to throughout the year!

    Mortgage balance 5th Jan 2007: £37,399.85
    Mortgage balance 5th Jan 2008: £27,451.25

Total paid off in 2007: £9,948.60

I know I sound like a stuck record, but I'm just enthusiastic about demonstrating how much debt we have all padi off and what a difference this site has made to people's lives, so:

Don't forget to add your amounts paid off your mortgage to the 'How much have we paid off our debt' thread.

I am not having a go at you just in case you are lurking and still want to take part just let me know even if you have not paid anything off we can still keep you on here.

Right enough ranting from me about the chart, I plan to post it around the 19th January as I am away with work on the 15th so you have plenty of time to PM me.

PS: just paid off the interest charged last month on my mortgage it was £78.58 compared with £98.96 the month before. That is such nice news and according to the statement we saved £78.92 last month by offsetting. I am truely addicted to this.

  • Happy New Year to you all,

I have pm'd Tallgirl with my latest update but I thought I'd put down my progress over the last two years

    Jan 2006 £ 71000
    Jan 2007 £ 62794.99 paid £ 8205.01 in 2006
    Jan 2008 £ 55410.40 paid £ 7384.59 in 2007

I have just finished a two year deal and am in the process of remortgaging to a lifetime tracker.

The aim is to be down to around £ 20000 by 1 April 2010. But my goal for the next twelve months is to be sub £ 40000. My realistic aim is to be mortgage free sometime during 2012, not set myself an exact date yet but I am hoping to sit down later this year and work out a date.

Thanks to you all for some great money-saving ideas and keep posting, I find them a great help.
