Have you tried powdered milk? I worked out that if you get sainsbury's basic brand and make up a pint it works out cheaper than ordinary milk and ok especially in cooking.

I reckon the main one now for me is not to spend anythng if poss, keep an eye on freecycle for things I need (and give away too :) ).

It is easy to spend money without thinking so not getting any out of the cashpoint is a good idea too, I hate breaking into notes so if i get one in my purse it usually stays prisoner for a while!

Carry a notebook and pen around with you for when you go to spend, get your notebook out. It'll make you think as to whether you really need it and it will also help you to keep a record. It works!

  • I do this too, sorry forgot to mention! I still have a stoozepot of around £13k keeping interest low but that has to be paid back this year and it seems to be thin pickings on the stooze front.

I direct debit the balance of my cashback credit card, too. On the stoozing front, I thought those times were over - I have only about £3,000 which will need to be paid back/renewed in March (the balance is in a Standard Life 7% fixed rate Bond, though!). But I just applied for a Halifax 0% on purchases for 15 months card (anticipating I might have a major expenditure this year - watch this space) and they've offered me a credit limit of over £11,000! Now I have to apply discipline!

The only other thing I've tried, which hasn't paid out yet, is opening savings accounts through topcashback. I'm awaiting £20 from Alliance and Leicester. And also £100 switching bonus from Halifax for switching a current account (I have a separate account for expenses from work, so I switch that one when someone has a good offer, and can keep my main current account as it is).

Treats are important to me, so I still have some (including massage as I get a bad back, and nice food), but I've cut right back on holidays - it's all about balance to me.

Hi Lexxi, sorry about the delay - I did see your message but for some reason I can't post when at work, though I can log on and read them. This is the first chance I've had to really sit down at home and read my PM's and do my admin. :)

Setmefree2 - can you PM me with your challenge details?

taka - I've changed your start amount.

Perhaps Javascript isn't activated at work? I had a similar problem with my home pc in IE - couldn't log into hotmail either.
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D

Just about to update my signature again. I'll be spending some of my savings this month as we are decorating downstairs. I am hoping that I don't have much shopping to do otherwise this month.
My quidco money has been put towards my new fireplace along with our money from my uncle for Christmas.
I'm getting quite excited about next month as I can put my council tax to the mortgage. Now off to update- and not spend!
