Hi DD / all. Made a few posts here, but recently I've dropped off the radar as far as the mortgage is concerned - bought a nearly new car and taking a massive hit to pay the car loan (515/month ) off in 1 year, so that I can get back on with the mortgage!
Was originally looking to run the mortgage for 10 years, ie March 2014, but suspect I could shave a little off that.
To help me along the way, I'd like to join in this little challenge? Mortgage as of today is 72,951.81. I'd like to roughly half this, ie target balance at April 2010 being (just) 35,000!
Tall order as far as we're concerned - single earning 4 person household, but every step closer to zero is a step nearer financial blissMortgage and debt free. Building up savings...0 -
Thanks for the kind words guys!
Tonight I think the most MFW thing I did was getting my last ebay sale ready to post tomorrow.
On the bright side, I went for a free walk round my local park and had home cooked egg and chips as comfort food rather than going out for a cheer me up curry so I guess thats kind of saving money:A
Congrats DD! I wish I was making a fraction of your progress, but as the others have said the money is in my account, well current account so it probably isnt earning very much interest mean while I am still paying my half of the current mortgage:mad:
Btw, does anyone have a C&G mortgage and have any idea if it is possible to get an online account? I have looked every where and I cant seem to find anything. Online mortgages must be fab!Debt Free - done

Dithering_Dad wrote: »Yayyy! My invoice for March has finally been paid and I've phoned my business bank to transfer the money across. And not before time too, cos Mrs Dither was going on at me about "not getting her housekeeping on the first of the month"
I've transferred £11,800 from the company account, £1900 of which are company expenses, £1700 for our monthly bills/mortgage, £1200 for Mrs Dither's housekeeping black hole and £7000 for the offset.
I'm going to have to be ruthless with Mrs Dither this month and not bow to her demands of mink coats and ivory backscratchers. If I do this, then we should have £10,000 in the offset by the end of next week.
Still no job to go to.. T-minus 25 days to unemployment

Who do you bank with? I have just set up a new ltd company and applied for an account with Cater Allen. 2 weeks and no response. Called today and they said it could be another 2 weeks. By then I will have 5 weeks worth of invoices that cant get paid to me anywhere!!! It seems that there has been a rush of account applications with them in April.0 -
Oooh wisewoman ... that sounds wonderful... maybe I too could ooze the sex appeal of Miss Moneypenny...
Tallgirl what you said about your DH struck a chord with me!! I tell my DH that I will match what he saves in our joint savings account which appears to encourage him to save a bit more - he gets glee out of getting me to match him. I don't think it's sunk in yet that it's money I would save anyway in a higher interest account!
Shineyhappy - I've got my fingers crossed for you that it all gets completed soon! Welcome to financial bliss and ailuro.
MFiT Member Number 5 reporting...
Mortgage now stands at £86,020 so standard mortgage repayments and overpayment this month have reduced it by £680.
This month received credit back from several companies, Mr Pincher committed more savings, we received annual interest on regular savings / ISAs and other one off extra income which contributed extra £500 so were able to save more than we can usually = £1,196.

Hiya mate, yes Cater Allen, they have a big backlog cos everyone's moving from umbrella companies into Ltd companies (are you using SJD accountants?). They're a really good bank, but snowed under at the mo. I'm trying to set up a deposit account with them to hold my corporation tax at a higher rate and they're taking ages for the same reason. They shouldn't be much longer (or so they told me today).
ailuro2 - I've added you to the list. Welcome to the group! You have probably got your region set to USA, hence the dollaro's. Go to Control Panel and select "Regional & Language Options" and check that the region is English (United Kingdom).
Welcome also to financialbliss. I've added your details to the OP.Mortgage Free in 3 Years (Apr 2007 / Currently / Δ Difference)

Shineyhappy - as C&G is the branch based arm of Lloyds TSB I think it's unlikely they have online accounts. I checked on C&Gs website just now and can't see anywhere to log in or any reference to online banking either0 -
Oh DD, how in the world do I do an avatar? This is ever so ever so complex for me! It's something I never even think to look at TBH! I don't know why.
I've bitten the bullet and changed my sig to try and reveal what I think is going on with the bank. It's like trying to read a set of ikea instructions when you try and work out your money the day you pay your cheques in and the day before DD's go out. Especially if it's a Monday and you've used your card at the weekend.
It looks alright to me ATM but keep your eye on the savings because I'm sure the amount needed to repay is going to have to increase this month.

Could everyone check that I've got their genders correct on the Original Post - some of your MSE identities are a bit androgynous, so i had a bit of a guess!
Do people mind if we all start using avatars? (these are the pictures next to peoples messages) - it makes the thread look a bit more jolly and is good for quickly "identifying" people in a long message stream - as long as they keep the same avatar!
I've finally found one I'm happy with, so will stick with this one. It's the Dad from the 70's cartoon series: "Wait 'til your father gets home". There are several other characters in that cartoon (hint hint!)
If you don't see any pictures next to the messages: Go to your "User CP" then select "Edit Option" then scroll down the page to "Thread Display Options " and select all three boxes (Show signatures, avatars & images) then click "Save Changes" at the bottom of the page.
To add an avatar, find a nice jpg image file and goto your "User CP" then select "Edit Avatar" and select your image file.Mortgage Free in 3 Years (Apr 2007 / Currently / Δ Difference)
