A lot of sites won't have much about people born in the last 100 years due to privacy laws - hence why we can't see any censuses past 1911, yet American censuses up to 1940 are already out.
All the same, I do agree; I've yet to find anything I trusted at familysearch and have always heard it's a site to take with a large pinch of salt.
It's largely because it's a rescribe of info collected by the Mormon church. They used to have this stuff issued on microfiche but, because they are Mormons, they often weren't given official access to old church registers and some of the transcriptions were definitely dubious. However, it is free and it is very useful for going back beyond the normal Census/Civil Registration stuff on the 'main' research sites.
I wouldn't rely on it for things you can obtain via FMP/Ancestry but I've certainly found a huge amount of older info on it. The major disadvantage is that you can't see the original record and there are lots of transcription errors. You need to be aware of the use of Soundex indexes and to try searches on miss-spellings of names.
Also, be aware that there are 2 versions - the older original site and the newer site which is updating the earlier one with more accurate information. The older one has more information.0 -

Agree there isn't much more recent stuff on there but I've already done a lot of laterstuff so it's the historicals I need.
The historical records show quite a lot of interesting data which is a bonus.
I've already found absolutely loads of my ancestors on familysearch and through cross referencing (thank you redagila) with FMP and other sites (records which I found last winter) etc. I know they are mine. Granted there are errors but I'm getting used to spotting them and weeding out the 'not mines'. so I don't go up the wrong 'tree'!
Still using my credits from FMP - abs.brill.0 -
Brilliant, all codes working and I have 230 credits now
I do have ancestry and have been researching for 9 years, but some of the records on FMP arent anywhere else.

Thanks to everyone who has listed codes.
I've got 375 credits to start my search. Xx0 -
Having been away for the weekend, have just reread thread and persevered with the Daily Mail codes. Now have 375 credits in total. Expiry date 7th April, so it seems to set your 90 days to date of last credit, which is a bonus.
Just need the time to search now. Hope everyone else is lucky with their searches.MSE Addiction, should come with a health warning:money:0 -
Hi all
I want to thank every one who has provided the additional codes and information for credits to Find My Past, particularly Tutor_Jeff who went to the trouble of entering all the codes needed for the Mail offer. It's brilliant that I now have 375 free credits! I have recently re-started my family history search after nearly 20 years and the free credits will come in very useful.
This is my first time on any forum - took me ages to work out how to get onto it - not great with IT but managed it eventually as I wanted to show my appreciation for the information received and discussion.:T:T
I added all the codes today and noted when I was accessing for the SNOWFLAKE code it said it expires on 07/01/2013, so those of you who thought you missed it may want to try again.0 -
:j Thank you for the heads up on the "Daily Mail - scroll down the page hint"
It's great that people can get together and coach others through bits that just aren't straight forward (OK I know that scrolling down a page is meant to be straightforward)
I haven't touched the family history for years and now other "less important things" aren't getting done..... oops :rotfl:0 -
