My 53 reg Diesel Yaris never gets less than 63mpg. Not much motorway driving. Ultra reliable. 73mpg on a long motorway drive. 100,000 miles coming up soon. A great engine in a great car.Nice to save.0

Just because you had 14 fiats, doesn't mean they're any good. Is that 14 in 5 years 'cos they all fell apart? My first car was a fiat tipo. Loved it, but it was sh!te reliability wise. Think the coupe 24v turbo only interesting car they made after the original 500.0

My first was a 127 in 1978. So no, certainly not 'within 5 years'. Out of the 14, I have only had 1 with corrosion issues which was rectified OUTSIDE the warranty period free of charge by Fiat. Also 1 with a mechanical issue, Uno Turbo which had a seized turbo. Although I had to wait about a week for a new turbo to arrive and be fitted, it was all done under warranty.
Also had Tipo DGT which I found to be problem free. My current car is a Punto HGT MK2 which I have owned from new in 2000 and is the longest I have ever owned a car. It still runs like new and everything works with no vibrations or rattles. At almost 70k miles it still has it's original clutch and the only major expense has been a cam belt change.
So I would say (from experience) that they are good cars.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0 -
Diesel doesn't work out cheaper when you take into consideration the cost of getting a car with a diesel engine and the (more expensive) price of diesel at the pump.
My view is that you would be better changing to a more modern petrol car which has a much lower mpg rate. As citykid has pointed out VW do a great range although be warned - you pay for it in performance.
From what I understand, diesel is only worth it if you're going to do 10,000 miles or more in a year. This becomes a bit blurry with hybrid cars.
I personally would want the Honda Civic IMA 1.3 (or is it 1.4?) Hybrid 2004 car, or a Prius from 2005 onwards.
With the Honda Civic, you do less mpg than the prius, but you get the added bonus of a manual car, and cheaper insurance, but you get a more powerful car with the prius0 -

Im guessing yours is a 1.4l then? I have a 1l Yaris, and whilst they're pretty good cars, they don't accelerate all that quickly and I think people behind you can annoyed as well0 -
well thanks for your input, current car 2006 focus 1.6 petrol 06 reckon would get around 1500 for it. even looked down the lpg route but 1500 quid is too much outlay on a car of this age i reckon....

i would deffo recomend a audi a2 1.4tdi for your needs and if you can get hold of the 90bhp sport version for your budget even better. must be one of the only secound hand cars of this era that are appreciating in value so probably free motoring for a couple of years. can't go wrong realy0
