Or you thrash it to death negating any savings.
There's that too.
I've had both: diesel and petrol, in the same sizes of car andf to be honest there wasn't that much difference between the mpg on them. At the moment we have quite a small car ( a 1600cc) but it's brand new and we've seen significant savings against our Merc E320, Chrysler 300C and Audi TT 3.2 DSG, as you'd expect - that's a no brainer when you consider the types of car we have been used to.0 -
Very helpful until you consider that: if you buy it - you'd be a Fiat owner0 -
Mpg from a 1.6 focus over so many miles looks poor to me. Over that distance a modern petrol driven at sensible speeds should be well over 40mpg.0

Unless there's a lot of town driving involved mate which would reduce you to urban consumption which could be as low as 26mpg - if I'm not wrong?0 -

I assume you're sitting in queues for most of that time, to get 25mpg in a 1.6 Focus. In fact, that figure's so grim there must be something amiss with your car.
At any rate you don't save money by buying a diesel car to replace a petrol. Once you've factored in the costs of replacing the car for a relatively more expensive diesel, and the increased price of diesel at the pumps, you'd have to drive the thing about 10 years to just break even. And if you really want to swap your car I'd advise you to forget the diesel and buy a Lotus 1.6S; 47mpg and you'll look cool with it.0 -
