It's been a while since I posted on this thread but we have an appointment July 2nd which I think is the appointment we have been waiting on then we will have to wait a couple of weeks to see if the IVF worked:huh: :)

No, you have treatment first and a cycle of IVF is at least 6 weeks of treatment!

    Hi again,

just read our appointment letter again for tomorrow and it says its a review appointment and was wondering what exactly this is?

I mean will this mean anything will be taken and we will come back again.:huh:

Sorry if these questions are me just being a bit dumb :o

The appointment will be to find out your medical history, how long you've been trying what investigations you may have had in the past, etc. the may also want a sperm sample for their own records but not tomorrow, hubby went back for that.

From that they will work out what course of treatment or 'protocol' you need, I.e. do you produce eggs or do you need donor eggs or even donor sperm? if you do this could delay matters whilst you are matched to a donor or potential donor.

Once you have your protocol in place expect about 6 weeks of treatment, down-Regging by sniffers or injections (this is essentially the menopause and stops you producing eggs so they know your response to egg stimulation is down to their treatment), then you inject everyday and start having daily scans after a week to see how you are producing eggs. When you're ready they take you in hospital for a few hours to collect the eggs (and hubby gives his sperm if applicable), then you go home whilst the eggs are hopefully fertilising in 48-72hrs and when they're ready you go back and have them put back. Then you wait the dreaded 2 weeks before doing a pregnancy test and hopefully it will have worked.

That's just a general cycle of IVF, things can change or go wrong at any time, like me l managed to ovulate myself on the first part when l shouldnt have, ovulating was a problem for me usually!

Just have an open mind and be prepared for things to change at every stage. X

    Happy moneysaving all.

You still need to have an appointment where they decide what protocol to do (if not already decided) and when treatment will start. It has to start at a specific part of your wife's cycle. So they will need to determine when this is, give you instructions on what to do and organise for the drugs to be given/delivered to you.

Well had the appointment today and we wife is going for an internal scan to see if thereis any other pproblems. Waiting list could be up to 5 months.

If all is ok then we go on the ivf waiting list which could be up to another year.

A bit frustrating but nothing much we can do..

Is it a hysterosalpingogram (HSG)? It's like an X-ray of the Fallopian tubes. It's not a fun test, but there is some (mainly anecdotal) evidence that fertility can increase in the three months afterwards as it flushes out the system. Didn't work for me, but the hope helps.

    Yes its NHS.

My wife is getting Laparoscopic surgery to see if there are any problems with her tubes.

OP have you and your wife taken a look at the Fertility Friends website, we found it a godsend when we went through IVF. There's always someone in the same boat as you whatever stage you are at, and everyone is so supportive.
    Good luck.

+1 for fertility friends - it certainly helped us out.

Good luck with the treatement - you are just starting out, and with the NHS it seems like lots of waiting. Just thank that it is free and hope that it works.

    Two bits of advice:

Whatever you (as a man) will be going through just think your OH will be going through a lot worse with all the impacts on her body as well as the mental anguish

Secondly think of another baby as the cherry on the cake - nice to have, but if you don't have it, the relationship is still great.
