Do you need ivf or icsi?
Ivf is cheaper than icsi
I'm nor sure you'll get it funded if you already have a daughter.
That's the situation we're in too

It's been a while since I posted on this thread but we have an appointment July 2nd which I think is the appointment we have been waiting on then we will have to wait a couple of weeks to see if the IVF worked:huh:0

The drugs are a massive part of the treatment cost! When I did my IVF cycle 12 years ago, the total cost was £3,000 of which about £1,500 was just the drugs. Obviously the cost of both elements has increased considerably since then.
I've never heard of a GP funding the drugs if a couple don't meet NHS criteria though. I have heard of it happening where a couple meet the criteria for NHS treatment but decide to go private for reasons of speed.
Either way the GP would be doing this against the NHS rules.0 -
Just a reminder: Primary Care Commissioning Groups will replace PCT's on 1 April 2013 and each one may view IVF prescribing differently to the PCT it replaces.
That's unlikely to be the case as this falls under the definition of part-funded treatment, which is not permitted under the NHS rules. If a GP chose to break the rules knowingly, they will be accountable to the CCG. Other GPs will not see too kindly to this sort of practice. The CCGs have to make decisions as to how best use their resources. If individual GPs start making their own rules based on their personal views, it would soon become chaotic. One GP might be sympathetic towards a couple wanting IVF, another sympathy might be towards hypnotherapy etc...0 -
live'n'learn. Hope your appointment goes well. Is it the very 1st appointment you will have had? Or is to transfer eggs etc?
We had ICSI, 1st cycle with 1 fresh egg failed but then we had 2 frozen eggs transferred and both girls are now tucked up in bed as I type!
Lots of luck

Hi,
We have been going to clinic since last year and this would probably be our only attempt at the IVF.
Glad things went well for you.0 -
Good luck OP. We had one cycle of IVF and we were VERY lucky that it worked. It is an emotional roller coaster but well worth it, I thank my lucky stars every single day. Even the trying ones:hello:
