OS Daily Monday 17th December

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 16th December. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Good morning everyone

Flying visit as I am supposed to be getting ready for work.
I don't know what happened to Winter but it's really mild here today.
DH talked me into a very non-OS curry last night so spag bol has been deferred until tonight. Work this weekend severely limited my cleaning and decluttering but still managed to get some done yesterday morning and DH has persuaded Oxfam to wait for us to drop some stuff off tonight so the boot is full.
I really need to go now so will leave with well wishes for sick people and pets and hugs for those who need or just want them. Keep safe and warm and have a super day

Morning all,
well i was going to bed when hubby left for work this morning but then he woke the dogs up and you know how it is, the bed is never as warm when youve left it for a few minutes. Dogs toileted, washer on and have just checked to see if my gas/elect meter readings have been updated online. I submitted them over the weekend but it didnt update my account immediately as to what i owed. We owe £69.48. Will get that paid ASAP.
Christmas tree is up finally after hubby nearly breaking his neck getting up the loft as he couldnt be arsed to get the big stepladders out of the shed. This is exactly why i want to clear the loft space of everything. He found a couple of empty boxes and a box he forgot was in there which was full of data cable that he had forgotten he had got. He is dead chuffed as it now means he can hardwire the internet connections without having to pay for cable.
'What else is up there?' i asked
'Nothing except your family bible' he answered
'What about the camping toilet?' i said
'Oh yeah, thats still up there' he answered
I will make it my goal for 2013 to get shot of EVERYTHING in that loft even if i have to go up there myself! Ive told him over and over again i dont want there to be any reason why we need to use the loft space as he is lethal on stepladders. Almost 10 years ago he fell off the second rung of a stepladder and shattered his ankle. Its not happening again!
I didnt get my new Christmas tree after all. Although i love the tree we have now, i wanted something a little smaller. Something easier to pack away without having to resort to having to stick it in the loft. I'll think about where else i can stick it before we take it down in the new year.
Had a lovely card from a friend i met when i used to go to church which has bought back memories. Good and not so good. I am wondering if now is the right time to tell her why i left? She no longer goes to the church herself but i always regretted not telling people why i left. Lets face it, theres no easy way to say 'It was a choice, my marriage or my continued church membership'.
A few of us spiritually single ladies were put in the same position but it was only when i left, i got to find out.
Usual Monday chores for me today, i might make a start on the kitchen floor before the dogs tread all over it. Its not very often i am up before the bin men get to my house on a Monday morning. I need to use the time productively.
Have a great day allThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Good morning all,
Mild here too but still a dampness in the air.
Washing is on the airer. Going to get the packed lunches done in a minute. Need to dry my hair and then i will take the dog out for a walk.
Tea tonight is lamb with vegetables and gravy. The lamb was already cooked and given to me and i also had a piece of gammon, uncooked, given to me yesterday. The gammon went straight in the freezer, so that will do us for over Christmas.
I hope everyone has a good day and hugs to those who need them.

Also damp and mild here.I have washed up, put washing on and paid some online bills so far today.I have a busy day today and will be very glad when the next few days are over. I could do with unwinding and de-stressing but cant do that until at least thursday. I have booked some bargain rooms at Premier Inn, Reading and will look forward to that. I hope everyone has a safe and happy monday. Might pop back this evening. xxx“Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. When the snow lay round about
Deep and crisp and even
Brightly shown the moon that night
Though the frost was cruel

Happy Birthday Bargain Bird xxI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Morning everyone
BB - Happy Birthday, hope you have a good day x
Hugs to those that need/want them that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x
Getting light here now this morning, looks like no frost but damp underfoot.
DH up and off to work stupid early.
Lunch yesterday was roast chicken, roasties, mash, cauli/brocc cheese, carrots, peas, yorkshires and gravy, chilled bottle of crisp white wine, LO cheesecake for dessert - didn't eat anything else for the rest of the day!
Was reasonably productive yesterday, got to SM as it opened so managed to buy the ink cartridges for the printer as had no ink left, bought a few other bits, but all bits that were needed but on offer now or I would need to add them to online order for this Friday. Once we'd eaten lunch and cleared away, got going with remaining wrapping, didn't realise I still had quite so much, took me nearly another 2 hours! All done now except last couple which I want to do when DH is at work as they are his! Also got my xmas cake iced and decorated, so now feel happier that some things are ready. Cards went in the postbox.
Dinner tonight will be pork chops, mash, veg and gravy.
Our town has it's xmas market today - town will be a nightmare - and I work in the centre so will be going in a bit early to make sure I can park.
Have a great day everyone, stay safe and well x

Morning all!
Am having a browse trying to maintain my sanity. OH is in ICU on a ventilator having had flu symptoms for a week, now has a lobe on each lung working and Drs not sure if it was the flu or something else, went into respiratory failure on Saturday. As you can imagine normal life has been suspended as we all cling to each other, told the kids last night today we cry, tomorrow we get back to helping him fight, which at least helped DS to blow bubbles from his nose for a second! So, all healing prayers vibes and spoons gratefully accepted, we will all put on our big girl panties and steel ourselves for the latest battle! xxxxRIP Iain
