Was just looking for some advice. I am hoping to get married this summer but only have a 10k budget, so we are thinking of getting married abroad. We looked into Santorini but the quotes we were receiving were scarily high, 5k for a photographer because he has to travel over from the main land...So now I am looking at Turkey, but haven't got a clue where to start... has any been married there before and can recommend places? or been married abroad and can recommend a cheap lovely place where we can all have a great time?0 -
I got married in Malta a few years back and I don't regret it one bit. The people were lovely and it cost us about £3000 all in all so I feel it was good value.
Since it was in Europe, te majority of family and friends came an just treated it as they summer holiday.
Also, all documents in Malta are in English so you don't have to pay to have things translated.
We booked through Thomas cook but it was with first choice weddings0 -

By all means get married abroad but to say the reason is because £10K isn't enough for a UK wedding is just crazy. If you go over to the Weddings board there are people planning weddings with varying budgets. (From £1k to beyond £10k!) Ours came to around £3k. So it is doable. You just have to prioritise and decide what you want from your wedding.
I don't have anything against weddings abroad (if we were going to I'd have done it in New York). Saying you're off to get married abroad so you don't have the headache of inviting Tom !!!!!! and Harry who neither of you have seen for the last 5 years is fair enough. Or because there is somewhere that is really dear to you - like where you had your first holiday together etc...but I don't think you can say money is the reason.0 -
We got married here: http://www.il-borgia.it/en/
Few years ago now, so not sure of current costs, but you can make it fairly reasonable if you're not planning on taking tons of people over!0 -
how much of the 10k is to cover everyone's cost of attending? surely it would be cheaper to pay for travelodges/premier inns in this country for 1 night for everyone.0

Wow what, lovely helpful people you all are! Love the wedding wagan, what a brilliant idea! alias*alibi, ok that has put me off Turkey.. I have been there too and have to agree with you about the wine, so thanks for reminding me
Hope you have a lovely anniversary on Tuesday
Yep, currently looking at Cyprus too, it looks gorgeous
Person_one, thanks for the tip, just been doing some research on weddings in the uk and didn't realize you can get all inclusive ones for around 5k... Will have to get the bridesmaids doing the sun dance on the morning of the wedding, if we go down the UK route haha..
Olias, your wedding sounds amazing!! I would consider Australia but my fiance doesn't like Australians, so don't think he would get married there. All to their own I guess. Melaniep101, your wedding sounds fun fun fun and especially the cheese cake factory
Even if we don't get married on our Vagas trip, will definitely be visiting that place and the little white chapel
paddedjohn & littleg, looks like the votes for Vagas are mounting up.... Will check it out before we go just in case the alcohol starts talking and we end up walking down the isle or calling the wedding wagon!

We got married in Gibraltar last August. I did it all by email with the registrars and then the week before the wedding drove up from Spain with the originals to get them notified and hey presto less than £100 and it was done.
There are hotels you can get married in there or even a garden and it is easy enough to organise it yourself for very little money.
We had booked a holiday to Spain anyway so just did it in the middle of our holiday. We stayed in a hotel just outside the Gibratar border the night before. £48 for the two of us including breakfast 5* hotel, booked through late rooms.
It can be as dear or inexpensive as you want. x:rotfl: l love this site!! :rotfl:0 -
