I set up 3 dd's for Tesco (no problems there, done online). I set the other 3 dd's for S'der via their printed out direct debit forms (from the link earlier in this thread) and posted them along with the required statements. All 3 were completed identically (apart from the account numbers obviously), but surprise, surprise (it is S'der
), they've mananged to c**k up setting them up, only one has gone through ok. I can't view even the one that's ok online either, but they tell me that's because they're not called direct debits but Funding Mandates which they say are slightly different. Anyway, they can't even correct them straight away, they said an "investigation" will have to be carried out to find out why they've been set up incorrectly (???) and they don't know how long that'll take. This is why I'd never, ever have my current account with Santander, only ones I've ever had with them have been "dummy" ones to gain from their switching bonus. God knows if they'll work by Halifax's deadline.

3 accounts
can we setup 6 direct debits to
wateraid and mcmillan for £0.50 each
I dont want the charities to be out of pocket though. Is this acceptable?0 -
Define "acceptable".
If you mean morally so, then no, I don't think it is at all acceptable to cause a financial loss to charities - and those who they work to benefit - so that you can make a profit.0 -

Good on you.
There's plenty of ways to get the required DDs without damaging any charity.0 -
I've got one DD for £1 from Tesco and another DD for £1 from my Santander esaver in process of being set up (I hope).0

If I do set up the DD for £0.50 and set it up as a gift aid for bit extra can the charities refuse to take the DD as its only a small amount?0

Doubt they would but they could.
If you don't know / can't figure out how to get the entire fiver without the help of anyone but Halifax, yourself and companies you pay bills to, perhaps you should just leave this offer for another day?0 -
right mines now my three rewards dds are now almost sorted, I have set up dds for savings savings account to them to withdraw the £5 reward, so that will be held in a seperate account now after each payment
and I have transferred over a few other monthly dds (dogs insurance premium, my phone bill and union memberships), and have set up a standing order from my main account each month into the reward to cover the three dd's that have been transferred over as the insurance, union and phone bills are set each month
to be on the safe side as well, have also moved over a couple of less used credit card dd's
almost sorted as just waiting for the dogs insurance dd to switch overMFW#105 - 2015 Overpaid £8095 / 2016 Overpaid £6983.24 / 2017 Overpaid £3583.12 / 2018 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2019 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2020 Overpaid £2583.12/ 2021 overpaid £1506.82 /2022 Overpaid £2975.28 / 2023 Overpaid £2677.30 / 2024 Overpaid £2173.61 Total OP since mortgage started in 2015 = £37,286.86 2025 MFW target £1700, payments to date at April 2025 - £1712.07..0 -

I think there's every chance that they will. I do know from a colleague that some charities are already aware of this and similar threads, and are considering their options.
The most likely option, and this will vary from charity to charity, is simply not to claim the payments where they fall short of the charity's costs.
This will result in the loss of £5 by the account holder for every month affected, and I think that's a very just reward for anyone low enough to try to profit at the expense of a charity.0 -

I hope you are right, and I think it would be delightful if those happy to damage charities didn't get paid their fiver.0
