It appears the letters re the changes to the Reward accounts are slightly different depending on how Halifax has classed your account usage.. Top left hand corner, under the date there is a reference RCACustx ("Reward Current Account Customer x") How have you be classed by Halifax? Mine is 'RCACust5'

Knowing how you are classed and what this means about your account usage could be useful information.

I have 3 in my name, 1 as main and 2 for cycling money through for the fivers.
    Main acc RCACust2
    Both of the others RCACust5

Bank of Scotland reward accounts are now similarly affected. Same T & Cs from 1 May.

Pay in £750, don't go overdrawn and pay two direct debits per month.

No great issue for us as only one account doesn't have active direct debits and that's easily sorted.

Does any one know if this will affect the Halifax clarity rewards credit card as well. I have the card and when you spend £300 in an account month they pay £5. However at the time I applied you could only get it if you had a reward current account. If I do not add standing orders and the account is downgraded does any one know what will happen with the card reward as there's noting in the paperwork and terms they've just sent me
    MFW#105 - 2015 Overpaid £8095 / 2016 Overpaid £6983.24 / 2017 Overpaid £3583.12 / 2018 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2019 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2020 Overpaid £2583.12/ 2021 overpaid £1506.82 /2022 Overpaid £2975.28 / 2023 Overpaid £2677.30 / 2024 Overpaid £2173.61 Total OP since mortgage started in 2015 = £37,286.86 2025 MFW target £1700, payments to date at April 2025 - £1712.07..

No notification letters from BoS yet (8 from Halifax last week).

I was holding off on the BoS accounts but it looks like I'll have more work to do!

Do you have any DDs setup on your main acc? Make purchases with the debit card, etc?

I make infrequent withdrawals from my Halifax account, for the simple reason that I have their 2.8% savings account and its easier to transfer to reward account than another bank.

    RCACust5

Maybe the number is the amount that your taking the pee, with 6 being the highest, 5 is slight usage, and 2 being regular usage. I'm going to assume that people with '1' don't get any letters as they already have DDs setup.

    Thats my assumption/guessing anyway :)

I do have DD's set up on the main account and do make some payments by debit card.

Main account had 5 DD's set up prior to letters being received, although one of these is to a savings account that has no action on it, and another was the addition of a CC but this meant I still paid only 1 CC bill per month, and the 2 extra accounts had no DD's set up at all prior to the letters being received, but now have 2 each.

Edit, after checking, it is possible that I set up the extra DD's just prior to the letters being sent, but none of them will have been paid at that point.

Our BoS letters arrived today. Mine is a RCACust18 (main account, lots of activity and DDs), his is an RCACust20 (main account, lots of activity and DDs but went a couple of pounds overdrawn in November) and the joint is also an RCACust20 (no DDs, purely used to get the fiver.

All it means for us is moving two direct debits from my personal account to the joint account.

I think we're all perhaps reading too much into all of this.

One of my Reward accounts has been my "main account" for around 6 years. It receives my salary by BACS Direct Credit and pays most of my bills via DD (around 8 or so per month), yet I still got the RCACust2 reference for this account. It's hard to see what else I could do (in terms of account management) to get RCACust1...if indeed it exists?

My other 3 Reward accounts all have the RCACust5 reference...unsurprisingly!

However, I'm reading their letter somewhat differently to others in that I see their need to talk to me as wanting to enlighten me as to what I can do to ensure the changes don't affect me on those other 3 accounts.

After all, they already know I have 4 Reward accounts so why don't they simply serve me 60 days notice that they're closing 1, 2 or 3 of them?

I'd imagine/suggest the letters were prepared last month (maybe even before), being as the news of the changes broke in mid-December.

My own DDs have been set up (but not paid yet...Feb 12th start) for around 3, possibly 4, weeks now.
