..... I'll set up two typical DD from each account (Water, Council Tax etc)

To get the monthly fiver, your 2 DDs must each pay out monthly., i.e. every month. Most water and council tax DDs do not meet that criterion.
  • Ok, Cheers Innovate, although the Water is monthly, the council tax does have a holiday in Feb and March. I have until about the 12 of April I think to sort it, and sort it I will!! lol

I got the letter this morning :(

I don't have any of the bank accounts that I can set DDs up from and don't want to abuse charities. So if anyone has any other good ideas please post! I'm thinking something like topping my Oyster card up by £1 a month (but I've checked and you can't do that) or topping up a supermarket giftcard by £1 a month.
  • Thank you for some brilliant ideas to satisfy DD condition. Apart from:

    - utilities (not everyone pays, these might not be monthly payments)
    - saving accounts (only limited number of banks offer DD facility on their saving accounts, hassle of opening a new account and then transferring money out)
    - credit cards (not everyone has one, you cannot set the exact amount it must be full amount or minimum payment)
    - charities (they might change the rules regarding 0.01 payments, it costs them more to process the payment)

what are the other brain storm ideas ?
  • Can anyone tell me if I pay my credit card in full by direct debit could I set up another direct debit from my reward account (a different account) for say £1 a month to count as one of my Direct Debits?

Your credit card will almost certainly only allow you to have one DD set up against it.

They both have a holiday where I live. Council tax 2 months, water 4 months.
  • Sorry if I am a bit thick here, but how do I set up a DD from my halifax account to my Nationwide account ? I can only see the option for standing orders...

The DDs have to be set up by the receiving bank, so you'll need to get in touch with N'wide.

I've had the letter this week and will have to open a Tesco Internet Saver for one but just wondered about the Lloyds Easy Saver.

I opened one when it was a good offer over a year ago and notice on my Lloyds accounts that it's still open with £0 in it.
If I could do DD to that it would be useful as I could then recycle it round the Vantage accounts.

I did a search and can't see it mentioned in this thread so wondered if it wasn't suitable.
