  • if as a couple you have 2 x sole accounts and 1 x joint account would you need to find 6 direct debits or could you have the same 2 on each account?

When you authorise a direct debit, you have to confirm that you are the owner of the account to be debited.

Have you read the rest of the thread? Plenty of ideas there.

Where have you got salary and utility companies from? The Notice of Variation from Halifax is explicit as to what is and is not permitted.

Im pretty sure there was a post earlier where someone was told this on the phnow. Whilst i appreciate we can only work from the detail we have in writing it does make me wonder if that is where they are headed.

Or it could just be someone who hadn't been briefed properly.

Halifax listening in.... time to move on

Please note this thread was started by a Halifax employee and I am sure that this thread is being monitored by the bank.

All banks and building societies and insurance companies and big retailers, and any business owner with their head screwed on will know of the entire MSE website by now. A guy making £80m+ from an Internet site, and sticking out his head on multiple UK TV programmes, won't go entirely unnoticed in the UK business community.

Back to Halifax....As long as you comply with the T&Cs of a bank, the bank is obliged to also comply.

If you feel they don't comply with their own terms, you can complain to them. They then have 8 weeks to resolve the issue to your satisfaction. If this doesn't happen, you can escalate your complaint to the FOS, which will take some (undefined, I believe) time to process the issue in hand, and have the final say on the issue (in legal terms).

Nice move Halifax you are loosing a customer of 30+ years

I go overdrawn for the odd 1 or 2 days a month now I will loose my £5 bonus each month.

I know the bank needs to make a profit but not the best way to make a few quid.

I used to have there cash back bank account years ago, nothing ever seems to last for ever.

As individuals we then have the option to take our business elsewhere.

Sure....and at some stage before very long, there wouldn't be (/will not be) any "elsewhere"

It would have to be six direct debits, made up of two beneficiaries in triplicate.

It appears the letters re the changes to the Reward accounts are slightly different depending on how Halifax has classed your account usage.. Top left hand corner, under the date there is a reference RCACustx ("Reward Current Account Customer x") How have you be classed by Halifax? Mine is 'RCACust5'

Knowing how you are classed and what this means about your account usage could be useful information.

Well spotted. One 4, one 5 and one 6 for the wife and me.

    I wouldn't want me as a Halifax customer! :)
