My sons a copper and there is no way. His sargeant would have a fit. He is lucky to get 5 mins to himself on shift. never mind time to mess around with this nonsense.
Why? 3 days or 3 months it is still breaking the law. Its the law that you need tax to use a car on the road, its not upto a copper to turn a blind eye cos he cant be bothered.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0 -

I'd not be happy at the thought of a police officer waiting beside an untaxed vehicle, while I was being stabbed.
Anyway it's tax avoidance. Civil law not criminal, so I'm not sure how big a deal it is for the police.0 -
There are a number of poor assumptions and statements here.
There is still 14 days leeway to renew the tax after it's expired, but the car must not be used or parked on the road during that time
And ...
Renewals online can only be done before the current tax expires. And yes, if that's done on the last day of the month there is 5 days leeway to allow the thing to arrive in the post.
So the only current option for the person starting the thread is to obtain the insurance documents and apply for tax in person.
Until that is done the car can't be used or parked on the road.
The police will only get involved if they see the untaxed car being driven or parked on the road; they won't automatically be sent round to ask why no renewal happened.
There is also a certain cut off at which the local post office can't renew the tax if it's overdue or possibly some other condition as well. I can't remember the exact timing, maybe the 14 days, or a month, or maybe it depended on a renewal notice as well, can't remember. Anyway I was ill a couple of years ago and eventually had to travel to the local DVLA office and pay there for 13 months. Then a saga of late and cancelled trains, but that's another story0 -

The answer is stated above..Get your Insurance Company to email the Certificate of Insurance.
Then print it off and take the printed copy with the valid MOT etc and get it taxed at your local Post Office .(where you will obtain the Tax Disc straightaway !)
This happened to me on November 30th .
"Simples !!"
Sorry for the late delay, I just got it taxed last week. I rang the insurance to enquire about sending me the certificate of insurance and they sent me a email 20 mins later. I went to my local library to print it off and I went to my local post office to get it taxed. It got accepted and I got it taxed for 6 months. So thank you very much for your help which is much appriecated and you have saved me from get my car towed away!
I was late to tax it, because my car had failed the first mot at kwik-fix. The test was refused, because there was minor leaks on the exhaust centre pipe, excessively damaged on the upper anti-roll bar dust cover and suspension ball joint dust cover, handbrake was below requirements of 13% efficiency.
I had checked on the upper anti-roll bar dust cover and suspension ball joint dust cover, it was excessively damaged so kwik-fix was correct, but they was wrong because they covered up. They said there was minor leaks on the centre exhaust, poor tyre condition and brake cables has wires broken on both sides.
I found out that there was no leaks at all, the tyre has small cracks but it didn't look too bad to me. And there are no brake cables on both sides that has been broken. They was lied. They wanted for £164 to replace the new suspension ball joint on the wishbone and I refused to let them to do the work. So I had to get someone to help me to refit the handbrake, refit the clip on the rear exhaust box and replaced the new suspension ball joint dust cover on the wishbone. I took my car to a proper garage to do for a proper mot that I can only trust, but my car had failed the mot due to the handbrake so I had to get back to somone to refit it correctly then my car has passed the mot.
I had to wait to receive a letter from my insurance company to receive the certificate, but it still hasn't arrived yet so I got it taxed last week. You can see my point why I got it late. It wasn't my fault.
However, I got a letter from DVLA today. They said on the letter that I have got one last chance now and I need to tax it or sorn. I have already taxed it last week, so do I need to ignore it?0
