Can't renew my road tax because insurance docs don't arrive

My tax expired on 30th November, so you can see the today date is 13th December. I have one more day to go, so can I be able to tax it tomorrow or if I should tax it today?
what happens if i pay on the 15th, would I get fined or get in trouble with the police?
I don't want to be in trouble with the police as I never got into criminal records and I really want to keep my car. How many more days left do I have until the police come to my door?
And how I can be able to tax it online?
Your tax already expired 13 days ago (as someone has pointed out) so unless your car is currently SORNd, you may get a penalty from the DVLA. In any event, an insurance certificate sent via electronic means (via email) is perfectly acceptable at the post office now days. Also, when taxing on line, the DVLA electronically check for insurance and MOT without needing physical copies. When you do tax the car, it will commence on the 1st December.

I posted my previous post before seeing your post (#11) which states that you are not using the car. So as you say, you have 14 days to either tax it or declare it SORNd. But as I did say above, you can tax it online providing the insurance is up to date. The online process includes an electronic insurance check.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. If your docs don't come tomorrow, then tax it online, you don't need the insurance document, nor the MOT certificate. The system automatically checks that you are insured, you don't need any evidence, just the tax reminder form that's all - as others have said.
I was a few days over last month and nothing happened. Need to bear in mind that the post is likely to be slower at this time of year though. You'll probably be fine - hopefully the police are chasing people who never pay car tax, not those a few days over.
Put a note in your diary for next time though, the stress isn't worth it!0 -
would i be able to drive with a old tax while I am waiting for the new tax to arrive?0

How come this person is doing all this research on here but has not done his homework on the DVLA website?
They don't automatically fine you, you get a reminder to SORN later in the month.0 -

"you will not be committing an offence if you renew the tax or sorn within 14 days after the tax expired date. You must keep the vehicle off the road during this time as you will be committing an offence it is used or kept on the public road".
So, as things stand;-
- you need to keep the vehicle off the road and/or
- you need to SORN it if you intend to keep it off the road or
- you can tax it online if the insurance is now showing on MID* or
- you can tax it at a PO as soon as your insurance certificate arrives.
*However you cannot rely on the five days grace afforded those who tax online before the last tax ends. You could be accused of an offence of failing to display if you take the vehicle on a road before the new tax disc arrives.I am a mortgage broker. Why can't you tax on-line ? you do not have to give any insurance details, the DVLA know if your car is insured and MOT'd through their database. Providing your insurance is in fact in place as you sayYou scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe (Henry IV part 2)0
