Can't renew my road tax because insurance docs don't arrive
Hi guys,
I need your urgent help. I am going to have a big problem, tomorrow is my last day to renew my road tax. I can't be able to renew my road tax, because the insurance are too slow to arrive at my door. I phoned them two days ago and they said that it should arrive within 5 days which I should have receive the docs today, but it haven't arrive yet.
I am really concerned, if it don't arrive tomorrow I am going to be in trouble with the police. I did not commit a criminal offence as I am waiting for the docs to arrive while the insurance are too slow so it is not my fault. I can't be able to do anything until when it arrive at my door.
If I try to tax it online, it won't work because they need my insurance docs which I haven't got it yet. And if I try to phone the insurance to send me the docs on a email, it won't work either because the post office won't accept it due to fake docs.
Please help, I am really at stuck!!!!!!

If the vehicle is shown as insured on here;-

you should be able to tax the vehicle online.
However, you are still open to a "failing to display" charge if you drive it, as you didn't apply for the new disc while the old one was still valid.I am a mortgage broker. Normally if the DVLA tax reminder comes in the post, you can do the renewal on line as the DVLA hold insurance and MOT details on line now. Technically you do not need the documents. I never have when I've done mine. So long as your insurer has processed the documents and they are recorded on line you should not need to physically have them in your hands. All that is needed is the tax reminder reference to input your cars details in.0

Thanks for the quick reply guys. I am insured so what if I wait until my docs to arrive tomorrow, will I be able to tax it or it will be too late?0

All you should need to tax it online is a reference number of some sort, which your insurance company should be able to give you over the phone / email.
If you've got it taxed, then you should be ok to use the expired disc for a few days until the new one arrives.0 -
My tax expired on 30th November, so you can see the today date is 13th December. I have one more day to go, so can I be able to tax it tomorrow or if I should tax it today?
what happens if i pay on the 15th, would I get fined or get in trouble with the police?
I don't want to be in trouble with the police as I never got into criminal records and I really want to keep my car. How many more days left do I have until the police come to my door?
And how I can be able to tax it online?0 -
You seem to think there's a fourteen day window for you to tax the vehicle? Where have you got this from?
Are you still keeping the vehicle on a public road? Are you still using it?
Why are/were you unable to tax the vehicle before 30 November? Was it SORNED?I am a mortgage broker. Taxing a vehicle online;-

You'll need the insurance to be showing on MID. Is it?I am a mortgage broker. You should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Just tax it when you want. The police are not interested unless [unlikely] they stop you when driving the thing. Is it parked on road? If it's offroad.
Nobody will come to your door.0 -
There is no 14 day grace period now, there is a five day period were you do not have to display the Tax disc provided it has been applied for before the end of the month the old one expired. My tax disc has expired. Do I still get another 14 days to renew/obtain the road fund licence?
Although a tax disc can be purchased in advance of the current one expiring, there is no grace period following expiry in which you can continue to use the vehicle. This applies even if you intend to "get around" to buying the next tax disc, which will start from the date the previous one expired. If your tax disc expires on a Sunday, in theory, your obligation is to buy the new disc before it expires and not wait until the following Monday.

I got it from the DVLA reminder tax document. It said on the back of the document that i will not be committing an offence if I renew the tax or sorn within 14 days after the tax expired date.
I am keeping my car on a private car park. It is off the road.
I could not be able to renew my road tax, because my car had failed mot. So my car has just passed mot last tuesday (from this week).
Should I renew my road tax tomorrow and what if i don't receive my insurance docs tomorrow, can i be able to renew it on the 15th or so or would I get in trouble with the police?
what happens if i pay on the 15th, would I get fined or get in trouble with the police?
Please answer it, I don't want to be in trouble with the police as I never got into criminal records and I really want to keep my car. How many more days left do I have until the police come to my door?
And how I can be able to tax it online?0
