The Post Office do a gift card that can be used at lots of high street stores, your grand daughter will probably be delighted, what 11 year old would want to be dressed from Joules?
I was thinking exactly the same thing. Joules??? Weird. I honestly think cash would be a good option.Saving money like a trouper...0 -
I had the same opinion from start as others - perhaps your idea of suitable brand names and her idea are different.
Until you said Joules is one of them.
For 11 yr old????? Yes, he just picked first name that came into his head, quite possibly because these have been requested in past, it is not really teenager shop is it?
Thats what I thought! I can't see an everyday tween selcting Joules as a brand of choice! I think the OP thinks it could be a suggestion passed on by the mother tho?
OP Why don't you take your DGD shopping in the sales and let her pick what she wants, and then you two can have a day out together as well?0 -

It could be, but if he is anything like my OH it wouldn't.
He might have remembered the brand name from past christmases, when he was told by his wife/relatives.
Either way, with getting vouchers that will be for many different shops (and including this one) you cannot go wrong..0 -

Actually I don't agree with this. A lot of Joules stuff is very 'horsey', ie polo shirts and tops, and when I went to horse show at Olympia last year it was like a Joules-fest with almost every little girl wearing it! I have some Joules stuff myself, it's practical, well-made and fashionable unlike many similar ranges. Their body warmers are particularly nice. I'd go for the Joules vouchers, and if you get their email updates there are often a lot of good offers.0 -

She doesn't really have strong opinions as yet, but is influenced by her mum's choice. Her mum and I don't really get on all that well.
Here's the crux. Granddaughter doesn't have strong opinions but you certainly do."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0 -

Interesting stuff on Joules.
Oh well, not everyone always agrees on everything.
OP said Joules was just one of the shops mentioned... and if you can get a voucher covering this and range of other shops, why take the risk?0 -
I live in a posh town and all the girls wear Joules, Jack Wills, Crew, White Stuff, etc. it's the new sloaney look.:cool: DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :cool::heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

I'd be pretty offended if by 11 I wasn't trusted to dress myself and people had to ask my Dad's permission!
She said what she wanted, it's not up for you to decide whether it's appropriate or not. Just give money, vouchers are restrictive and in this economy unreliable.
Really? Did she?Newly_retired wrote: »I asked my son for ideas for granddaughter's Christmas present and he suggested clothing vouchers, naming three brands which in my opinion are far too expensive to use for clothes for a growing girl. She is 11 so at the top end of the chidren's sizes.
So I am reluctant to settle on this idea.
I don't want to appear mean or old fashioned, but want to be sensible!
Anyone suggest other vouchers, which can be used at a range of stores or online, to give a bit more choice?0 -
You could get her Amazon vouchers, they sell clothes inc. Hollister, Joules etc.
Though I'm surprised at the mention of Joules, too.0 -
