Just popping in to say hi and bye.

I'm bowing out of grocery challenge just now (although I may come back in a few months). I'm on a particular eating plan, and have noticed that whilst I've been scrimping over the last 6 months I haven't really lost much more weight (Xmas had something to do with it too!).

So I've made an executive decision (which we can afford) to focus on the health side first, and once that is back under control I will have a better idea of what my spending should be like.

Good luck with all your bargain hunting!
Bye bossymoo. Just to say i am a very healthy eater too and will only buy reduced products if they are good for you (the occassional treat ie a packet of thorntons choc cakes reduced to 43p slipped in over my 4 week period but thats ok). Ive made a lot of healthy soups and stews and the meat/poultry and fish are fresh and reduced too. I gave in and spent £1.25 today as i had a couple of pomegreat coupons and a welches coupon which had to be used by 19th/20th January. I didnt realise that the welches was only £1.00 but the coupon gave me more money off so that was a bonus. Which meant i got 4 pomegreat cartons and one welches carton as well as YS cress punnet for 15p all for £1.25. Ive updated my signature. I will post next week my 18th January to 15th February challenge.

Pleased with my total so far. Went to A**i tonight but I think everyone was panic buying because of the threatened snow as there was no milk so ended in just getting milk in the dreaded Mr T. Spent £44.45 altogether which is very good as I got a whole chicken to roast on the weekend and other nice meat too.

  • Nipped into Mr M on the way to home and picked up milk (89p) and Ys cabbage (40p). Then realised I forgot a birthday card for OH's mum (separate budget) so nipped into Mr T afterwards and got the card plus YS Lurpak extra light (35p). The cabbage was only half priced but the butter was down from £3! So very happy. Goes out of date tomorrow but I know it'll last a bit longer and anyway I have loads of baking to do at the weekend so will use tons then.

OH was meant to be making a curry while I made HM naans, but the poor soul was super stressed from work and just wanted to sit on the sofa with an Xbox game and beer, so I let him and on a whim made a new curry recipe which was amazing:

Basically it was pakoras in a yoghurt sauce (supposed to be onion pakora but I also added peas to bulk up the veg content), plus I added some of already roasted butternut squash, also to bulk out the veg content. Served with HM chapattis as couldn't be bothered making naans after I'd made the pakora lol. Made a bit of a mess of the kitchen but didn't take as long as I thought it would and was so good and unusual :)

  • Bluegreen is it yourself that has a vegan family member? I know a few people on here use soya milk but as an alternative the alpro hazelnut milk, which I use, is on offer at Mr As for £1 instead of £1.69 and it is gorgeous. I use it in tea and coffee and its lovely on cereal.
Soya milk started to give me tummy ache which is why I swapped to the hazelnut.

sorry to hear about your job loss. Hope something else turns up soon.

Had another spend today but just about keeping in my budget.

  • I am way over target on a per diem basis but this is due to the threatened snow and some advanced purchases just in case! Itlooks like I will just miss it after all, but the sort of things I have bought can be used later in the month in any case. Better safe than sorry!

A NSD for me. But my travel plans for the weekend have been cancelled due to threatened snow. I don't want my dad to risk driving to come and collect me from the train station.

That means planning 2 extra meals as unlike DH i won't live on cup-a-soup and cheese. AKK

Today's Living Social Deals email has an offer on Riverford organic veg boxes. It's three small boxes for £19. That's half price.
Has anyone used them in the past? How would the boxes compare price wise? I'm tempted to try one (or three). But I am not sure.

Thanks. Hopefully it won't be too long but I don't want just any job as i've been in miserable jobs before - I would sooner be really tight for a while!

All I have to do is work out half the things around here - totally confused, but not for the first time ;)
