    Hi all,

Well, I've not caught up with the thread yet as I've been awol since the weekend - it all moves so fast!

My month will be starting on the 1st January - it was going to be the 24th (ish) but hubby did a couple of shops over the weekend and Christmas eve and I have no idea what he spent; nor did he. :eek:I have no intention of buying anything but milk and eggs until the new budget starts.

I want to get my monthly spend down gradually from about £260 to £200 so I will set a monthly budget for January for £260 with an annual figure of £2610 for reference.

Hope you all had a fantastic Christmas!

I'm back in for Jan for £250.

I gave up at some point last year. We are away for 4 nights in Jan but a part self catered hol as will take breakfasts/dinner bits with us and have lunches out I think.

We normally spend £400-550 depending on what we are up to that month. We are starting some work in our house at some point in Jan or Feb and need to clear out the freezers and as many cupboards as possible before it starts. We need to get to a point of having cleared our stocks and mealplan and buy only for the next week whilst we have the builders in. We can build up stocks again when we have our shiny new kitchen and freezer later in the year :j

DH will also be away with work for a few nights in Jan and the kids and I are happier eating 'odd' combinations than he so will be using up odds and ends on those nights.

We have tons of Christmas LO to get through. We have friends over on NY eve but this won't be included in Jan budget as I follow the calendar month ;)

  • Not at home this morning as I'm at my parents but just realised we stocked up on meat (chicken breasts and beef mince) and toilet rolls in mid-December and just before Christmas the dog food we get was on offer so we got two bags, plus we both have plenty of toiletries (except maybe toothpaste and hair gel) so we should mostly be ok for January! We have a tournament weekend (Friday night - Sunday afternoon) mid-month so I think we will use the money left over from the grocery budget to go towards that as it will require a hotel stay and six meals (2 each, 3 days) plus snacks for the two of us :) Already feeling more positive about this!

Especially good as I only managed half hours last month so only got half as much as I could have earnt in my pay packet! Excited to get stuck in once we get to Jan 1st!

  • Hello all!

Could OH and I be put down for £150 please, aiming for a good start to 2013! We have mini-Kube due at the start of Feb, and are saving towards a house deposit, so determined to stick to budget! May have to adjust things slightly when he arrives (however we're cloth bumming and breast feeding so hopefully he won't impact the GC too much!)

We have enough bits and pieces in to last another week or so (bar some lasagne sheets needed for today, so will nip over to the shop now in a tick and get those and any good little offers, ekk here we go again lol).

Planning to do a meal plan today, and then a monthly shop (online via MrA / MrT, cheapest slots and cheapest items from each, and via offers in our local shop which does good local stuff eg 6 FR eggs 79p, 2L milk £1, local bacon and veg etc). We do have a MrS over in town which doesn't deliver, will see if any offers worth the trip. Same for MrL. We need quite a bit of household stuff this month too (washing powder, loo rolls etc). Determined to manage our housekeeping budget a lot better in 2013, for mini-Kubes sake (if I tell myself its for him then I'm more likely to stick to it!)

    xx

  • Wow long thread already! I'm ready and raring to go, went over the last budget, my first attempt, so hoping to make a fresh start with this one. Got a nice notebook with my Boots points to turn into some kind of budget diary just looking for some ideas at the moment.

My month starts today, 27th Dec, and runs until 24th January and I am looking to spend £260

Thanks to everyone for all their hard work :)

hi there and happy new year y'all, well got lost a bit last year but determined to stick to budget this year, can you put me down for £200 for a 4 week month, should be doable as there is only 2 of us and no longer any pets :(, so thats all the food, toiletries, household stuff and any bought lunches for me

just have to not impulse buy, hoard or cook everything at once out of new cook books, have also started to bake my own bread :T am pleased with the results and even more pleased with not shelling out nearly 2 quid for a decent loaf round here

so good luck everyone and i look forward to hearing about all your tips and top finds over the coming months

I want to aim for £100 this month please. I have gone off the boil with gc in recent months as I have been living with my best mate since July and she doesn't let me contribute much to the house as I'm saving for a place of my own - she's an angel fair play! I'm hoping to move into my own place in February and as such will aim for £100 this month as I can buy some store cupboard stuff for the new place and some bits and pieces for my mate as needed.

Thanks to all who run this thread, I did really well on gc last year with meal planning etc and plan to continue in the new house when we move in :)
