  • :rotfl:you sound like me with the no spending rule and then going out and doing it anyway :o! We must both try harder ;) I quite fancy a dehydrator too but i'm not sure i'd use it all that much, and also not sure where i'd even buy one never mind how much they are :rotfl:

*gulp* I bought the most expensive one I could afford, it has 9 trays and a timer! I think it cost me about £300, but it's amazing. I don't use it as often as I really should for that money, but I am a firm believer that it's going to pay for itself eventually. It was the same with the M4gimix, I bought the best I could and we now have a semi-professional kitchen setup which makes cooking dinners so much easier. Want to chop a carrot, whiz it in the food processor, want to dry some herbs before they die, no problem dehydrate them simples.

However, I never remember what I'm meant to do after the washing and cutting stage, so I've just found myself back on that wretched candy game when I'm meant to be looking up the destructions, whoops.

Well I have 3 trays of carrots drying in the dehydrator, this was 3 bunches for 75p each :D I bet they all fit in the kilner jar with extra room when they're finished, dehydrated stuff goes teeny tiny.

I've just emailed the freezer guy back as they said it's still available and we can collect one day this week after 6pm. I got the price wrong, it's £40, but that's still better than £300. It's a h0tpoint one, so I know the brand as well. Some of the 4 drawers are a bit damaged, but I don't really care about that as I'm sure we can get some replacement ones if need be. Woohoo we're getting a freezer so we can batch cook more :D tbh I was a little worried as I know the cat food & last nights soup will take up most of the 2 drawers we have that aren't full of OH's smoothie fruit. Yay :D

  • Our second freezer is 11 years old and a really cheap one all the drawers are cracked/broken or missing but it works great ;) it looks a bit weather beaten but I'm not replacing till it's broken completely :p

I've shown the picture to OH, this is the man that throws an apple away if it is a little bruised, and he's not 100% sure about it. I think it's going to be perfectly fine, we shall have to see I think.

Finances update: I've just paid the qu1dc0 payment to the VC as well as the additional £25 odd for the pressure cooker, I'm really close to the £3k limit now :D Had some more fleabay sales last night and I listed some new items into my shop, so hopefully sales will start to steadily increase. Not at the stage yet where I have to print the postage labels, so making the most of saving on paper by writing them all out by hand. Little bit confused as to where the money for the fleabay invoice has come out from, it says it's paid by nothing has come out of my p4yp4l yet. Ho hum! I have a lovely £46 sat in there at the moment, saving it up for 2 months worth of invoices then I'll start skimming the extra off the top to pay the VC.

I'm still really tempted to pay the £500 I've set aside to the VC and then use that at the baby show, might do it and not tell OH as it'll save me a wedge of interest and it's only 4 days between the baby show and payday. We shall see how I get on with the rest of the month, so far I have £800ish left in my other account which I'm earmarking to pay towards the VC also. Aiming for being under £2,5k this month minimum. Come on fleabay people get buying my stuff :D

Right, need to get dressed super quick as I'm in the office today and I'm running behind whoops.

Well yesterday we picked up the freezer for £40 :D From what I've read we can now use it :D so I'm going to make some veggie pasties this afternoon, whoop whoop. I might even make some other bits and pieces with the veg we've got, chilli springs to mind as that's super duper easy.

I'm going to have to take my 20p outside though, I have a horrid feeling I am in desperate need of new tyres and alignment. I'm hoping it's only 2 tyres, but it might be 4. I have no idea how I manage to kill tyres each year :( Going to go and hunt down my pin number for my VC so I can pay using that then transfer the money back from the current account. This should reduce the amount of interest I have to pay, even though it's just a displacement technique. Luckily the tyre place is over by the delivery office and I need to collect the bread mix, so I'll get it all done at the same time. I just don't trust driving all the way to West Wales this weekend, then down to my parents, then across to London this month with the tyres I've got at the moment especially now it's raining more. You can feel they don't stop as quickly, and that was about 2 months ago whoops. :(

Right, best get dressed feeling absolutely shattered today and I really want to list some more things in my fleabay shop before people start shopping at the weekend. Really hoping I get lots of orders to post on Monday :)

Tyre purchasing hasn't gone to plan, I had to pay using my debit card as I managed to lock the VC :( Then I came back and knocked smoothie all over the floor :( on carpet as well. I have some carpet cleaner somewhere just in case it stains, fingers crossed it doesn't.

Have just spoken to my Dad about the £4600 he has put to one side for me. Have asked him if he can transfer it so I can open an ISA. I'm going to open a 3 year fixed interest ISA and stick it in there. However, I am wondering whether I should use £1600 of it to pay off my VC as that is costing me in interest each month. I know I can pay off BC and Cap1 with wages from single months, but trying to clear VC is hard because I can't clear it all with one wage packet. I know it's a bit like cheating, but I would save £100's in interest if I can just clear this. I would then call up VC and close the account so I can never spend on it again. I shall have a think about this, it will mean I can divert all funds to BC for the remainder of this month, kill BC with October's pay packet and then kill Cap1 with Novembers pay packet. Then I can start saving with November or Decembers pay packet.

I think if I want to do this then I need to set myself a target to achieve, i.e. no personal spends for the rest of the month (aside from buying my sister a birthday present). If by the 20th I've managed this (I have so far, other than the pressure cooker that was mostly paid for using qu1dc0 money :D) then I will pay off my VC in full. If I don't achieve this then I will put all of the money into the ISA and I will just have to learn the hard way. What do you think? Sorry it's a bit of a ramble.

I struggle with this type of thing too. The:money: way is to throw everything at the debts so use your dad's money to pay off as much as you can. But I have done that loads of times before over the last few years and what I figure is that I am not changing my behaviour and relationship with money unless I start to spend less than I earn! I need to get that into a balance.

So.. Currently I am trying to do a bit of learning the hard way and saying no to stuff and generally obsessing about money so that I am rarely giving into temptation when I do it's certainly for a smaller amount eg. Drinks last night but no dinner out.

Hard one but on balance given your mat leave etc I would certainly put some against the VC. Maybe put a small amount £2k into an ISA? still a nice amount to have as savings.

Have a great weekend. Is the baby show this weekend?

  • I'd throw it at the debt! Get debt free and then all the money you would have been using to pay debt put straight into savings on payday. Since becoming debtfree I transfer the amount I used to pay to debt straight to my isa and forget about it. Xx
