Do you tip anyone at Christmas?

I will give my cleaner a little present.

I was thinking about tipping the postman as I order so much stuff online and he is always friendly and cheerful with me...but it will depend if I see him in the week before Christmas. I think if I don't, I wouldn't leave something out because anyone could take it and also I only want to tip him, our regular postman, not any other post person who might be covering his shift or something.

Apart from that there isn't really anyone else! I never see the bin men...didn't know it was normal to tip them!

I might tip the postman if he was capable of closing gates.

I tip our postie, who is always cheerful and chatty. Don't have a milkman, cleaner or gardener sadly :(

I am not going to tip our bin men this year as they are really pedantic about what they will and won't take and I think the recycling men one week are different to the bin men the following week so can't afford to tip twice!

If my postman delivered the letters on time and didn’t put wads of leaflets through my door (despite there being a sign up stating addressed mail only) then I would tip him.

I will often say to bar staff on xmas eve to have a drink themselves.

I used to often tip my local taxi firm but over the months they have become later and later – even pre-booking them doesn’t seem to get them to arrive when I want them so they wont be getting a tip this year!

My hairdresser is one of my best mates so I always get her 2 bottles of wine (one which we drink when she is doing my hair just before xmas!)
  • I tip the paper boy. No-one else.

My neighbour tips the paper boy, the postie, the bin men, the recycling bin men and the milkman.

I get my own milk, the bin men and the postie are just doing their job the same as I am, so I don't tip them.

I feel sorry for the paperboy on these cold dark mornings on his bike.

Blah!!! Guys come on. Just because you're getting your mail later in the day, doesn't mean the postie is late. It's the way the duties are designed. Don't blame the posties for it, blame RM's computers for designing the routes. They can't get to everyone at 8am. As for the leaflets... opt out. It's the only way the postie is not allowed to put leaflets through your door. He's only doing his job. I'm all for choosing not to tip, but given those reasons I have to stick up for them as a former postie :)

My postie usually gets a tip but won't be this year, simply because he's a lazy git. None of the mail gets put through properly and is usually left sticking out the letterbox, which has resulted in a lot of mail going missing from my dd's letterbox, which is at street level.

Hairdresser gets an extra quid or two every time I go so don't really feel the extra need at Christmas.

The bin men I don't. Simpy because I never see them or I'd be tempted to give them a few beers if I did see them.

  • Just talking about this yesterday - my tip for the rufuse collectors would be "close the gate!"

Drinking wine while doing your hair? Oh my gosh, I've come over all faint :rotfl:

The thought of my hairdresser not being stone cold sober when she comes near my hair is definitely a nightmare scenario for me, especially if there is a cut involved. I feel weak.... :)

The only person I tip is my hairdresser but then I only tip her at Christmas and not throughout the year.
Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it!!

I tip the postman, well we've got a new one and it's postwoman now.
I'm surprised people still tip the binman, when they use to come down the path and lift heavy bins ok tip them. But now they only roll the wheelie bin off the kerb to the wagon and often not even once a week or if the bin is not quite right.
I think the window cleaner; gardener; cleaner; and newspaper guy all deserve a big tip. 'cos i do all of that.

Sorry, when I said on time I meant that the letters are a few days late – Im out the house 12 hours a day so it doesn’t bother me the actual hour he drops by. its almost as if he can be bothered that day to walk down my path with 1 letter so will drop it in next time I have more post.

I have already opted out of the leaflets and put a sign saying ‘addressed mail only – no leaflets, menus or junk mail’ but he chooses to ignore it.
