Do you feel like a "grown up" yet?

I tried acting my age once - was the worst half hour of my life!
In all seriousness I still can't believe that I'm a 32 y/o mum of 2 (one with special needs) with another due in 5 weeks. I feel like I'm playing at being a grown up. Inside I still feel like i did when i was about 14 and trumps still make me giggle!0 -
I'm only 20 so nope, definitely not. Even though I live away from my parents and do all the usual 'adult' things, it feels like I'm just pretending and tomorrow I'll be back at home living in my old bedroom, going to school again!Started 30/08/2011Biggest Wins: GHD's, 5* Trip to London, VIP Trip to Isle of MTV Festival in Malta.
Thanks so much to all who post

I'm a year older and when I moved in with my boyfriend a few months ago I kept saying to him how surreal it felt almost as if we were playing 'house' and would be back at home with our respective families the next week so I know exactly what you mean! :rotfl:0 -

I LOVE jokes about poo and any toilet based stories make me laugh out loud. Dear oh dear, I never want to be a grown up!0 -
Definitely not. I don't feel any different than what I did when I was 18. I have my own house, have a child of my own and sometimes I feel like I'm playing grown up. I am a young-ish parent though I suppose and when I compare my life to that of others my age/friends, I do feel grown up. Day to day life I don't feel self assured and in control, more like I'm coasting along and flying by the seat of my pants.
The only thing that has changed in 6 years is I have become a lot more cynical, which makes me sad, I never wanted to become my father. The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -
I STILL feel really surprised and almost proud every time I do something like speak to the bank on the phone as it seems very grown up!
This really mad me laugh - I can relate to that!Says me who phoned her dad in tears this morning because I have this vomitting bug and didn't feel safe to drive over to his house, an hours drive away, to collect my two kids who have been staying for a sleepover weekend. He stayed calm, let me cry a bit then told me to stay in bed, he would keep them for the day and drive them back tonight with a weekly shop for me. He is the best and I am left feeling like a little kid again, which just for once is rather nice.
What a lovely dad
I'm so glad i'm not the only one! Maybe some people never grow up on the inside? I still have a silly sense of humour and my DS1 and I do daft stuff like singing muppet songs to each other down the phone, and he's 20 years old and at Uni

I've just come back from Tesco where I ended up having to chase my 35 year old OH round the aisles. Resounding no!
I actually feel like a 33 year old fraud most days. Especially since I just looked at that sentence and remembered I'm actually 34It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.0 -
Not yet .......I'm only 69

What a fab thread.
I look at my mam and dad and see them as 'proper' parents. I'm not sure what I am :rotfl:
Yes I have a house, a car and job but don't feel a grown up. At all.
In fact I got a corsa in june and it's a 'safe' pale blue colour. I always moan its too bland, looks normal..... I feel it's a grown up car and I want something else :rotfl:
When I was 13 etc, 30 was old, 40 was Omg! Now I'm nearing 40 I don't seem to be that 'old' person.....Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
Not really...though its getting weird because a lot of my friends my age (26) are getting houses, getting married and having kids and that's not even something i've considered yet (and won't be a loooooooooong time). Its something i want but until i get to the point i can i don't think i will feel grown up.
Doesn't help my mum keeps reminding me by my age she was married, had a mortgage and had me :eek:This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
