I've tried living in a few different countries, and I'm not sure it's so much about which country you live in, as where in the country you are with how much money. The UK is pretty good, but it takes a whole lot of money to get a good standard of living... a fact most DFW's are very familiar with.

The difference in Aus, and I've heard this from most ex-pats who are here, is that you can live a fantastic lifestyle with next to no money. We live in an area featured regularly on TV here as a favourite holiday destination. We have a unit in a resort where everything is done for us. In an afternoon we pick which of 4 pools we want to swim in, or if we want to play tennis or go in a spa. And the setting looks about as tropical as it gets.... yet it cost about 84k GBP. Would love to know what you'd get for that now in the uk!!. Food is cheap, my monthly food budget is about 80GBP, we can go to the cinema for 4GBP, rent a DVD for 80p... heck our wedding reception, in an award winning restaurant overlooking the beach (which we saw on TV yesterday is Richard Bransons favourite when he's visiting) was for 30 people, with a 3 course meal and as many drinks as we could consume (cocktails included), cost 1400GBP... and that included the exclusive use of the place and 4 cases of wine to take home!!

On the downside, so this isn't just a huge boast :o , finding a job here is pretty hard.... I've got a degree yet I'm working as a casual shop assistant and glad of it really. And second hand cars are ridiculously expensive, so it's a good job they have pretty reasonable buses!

hehe, yeah, no huge heating bills... though it does get a bit chilly in winter, but air conditioning is essential. And given how many bugs we've seen I reckon installing fly screens might be too.

Getting in here is an apparent nightmare. Though hairdressers are always in high demand  I'm here because of the hubby, so am in the midst of all the immigration stuff now, which is a pretty fair sized expense too.

And there are still things that I miss.... pizza hut buffets, asda reduced sections, home bargains... oh, and Boots.

    Add me in please.....

I'd love to live in New Zealand.........or the remote Scottish Isles.......

I'm in England and just about as far South of Scotland as you can get, so I guess Scotland counts as another country?!
