Absolutely brilliant news Shrimpy :j I am so delighted for you. That is wonderful :D

Good to hear about wedding plans too - I agree with Birdie, more wedding posts needed :)

(((((Hugs))))) to you CMD, sorry that you're ill. A bad flu can knock you out for a week and takes a wee bit to recover from. I hope you're feeling better for your birthday.

Tete, sorry to hear about those work swines. You sound so annoyed with it, when do you hear about the PGCE?

    (((Hugs to all)))

  • So so so pleased for you Shrimpy, totally brightened up this rainy day :) And if your biscuits count as decluttering then so does the fact I lost ANOTHER phone this weekend. The one I raided my savings for when I lost the previous one (with contract but no insurance) only 3 months earlier. Grrrr!

Still steadily decluttering, though not much that will make me money sadly. I've totally cocked up my banking somehow this month, I've switched banks and thought everything made sense but it doesn't at all! When I add up all that I've spent I should have £100 more than I do but I can't tell where it's gone. Very annoying.

Just been to the gym for the first time in months, hooray :)

On another workymoan note - you know I moved offices and am being paid mileage for the extra travel? Well we had a note from HR yesterday saying that we now have to claim this mileage in a different way to normal work mileage (ie if I go to Newcastle for a conference or whatever) and that this mileage is now taxable! So instead of getting 40p a mile it'll be 32p a mile - a difference of £9.20 a week for me. Pee'd off is not the word and I said so in no uncertain terms to my manager (who was on the phone to HR saying, "but what about my mileage between Office A and Office B - that's not taxable is it?" (it's not) - I don't know if I mentioned this on here or my thread or at all, but she does have to go back to Office A for meetings etc a couple of times a week but never EVER has she come to work at Office B (here), gone to Office A for a meeting, come back to Office B and then gone home, she would always stay at Office A and hot desk (or so she tells us, she's probably telling them at Office A that she's coming back to Office B and is actually going home! - and yet she's claiming mileage between the two offices - I don't know how often, but it'll be a nice little boost for her ) Anyway, that's an aside - I don't know what I can do about that other than dob her in, but I'm certainly going to look at the legalities of what they're doing with the tax thing. SO sick of this place and the way I'm being treated, if I don't get a place on a PGCE I think I'm going to have to leave and just temp somewhere, it's the only light at the end of the tunnel at the mo. Sorry for the rant :(:o

    Hi Tete,
Think that this is to do with it not being a 'temporary work place'. If you were going to a temporary work place i.e. back to office A, you could claim it tax free, but as you have now relocated, I think that this is why they are taxing it.

I am obviously no expert but think that if you're going to research this, this 'temporary work place' might be a good place to start.

Regarding the other woman, I think that the easiest thing to do is ignore it. If she choses to overstate her expenses I think she is committing fraud and I would stay out of it. (unless it gets huge amounts) I know that's easier said than done though because she is obviously annoying you already!

    Thanks Ruby, how's that eye?

If I eat an entire box of christmas biscuits, does that count as a declutter...?

Was marched to A&E by the office manager yesterday (one of the benefits of working in a hospital) and they had a look but said there isn't anything there and maybe it's just dust or something. Was given some saline to wash it out with and told to go to Boots and get some drops, which I have done. Feels a bit better this morning but I still have a bit of a hazy bit in my vision so will try and see about an optician appointment at some point this week.

Hope everyone's having a good day.

shrimpy, you should absolutely count the box of biscuits as one thing decluttered! :D

I only managed to do 3 things yesterday, what a let down after Monday's de-junk fest! :o Just couldn't be bothered to tackle anything major (still poorly) so instead I had a nice time rooting through my Disney and Hard Rock Cafe pins (collected over many years :)) as I've decided to display them rather than have them hidden away in an old binder on my bookcase 'cluttering' it up (see where this is going once the job's done?! ;)) I got a blank canvas last night and painted it a nice colour so I can stick the pins on there tonight and get it on the wall. Who said de-cluttering had to be boring! :)

Boo to losing another phone Archers! What are you like?! :o Hope the money shortage works itself out. :)

Glad you had the eye checked Ruby, you've got to be so careful with them. :)

Been discussing having a few days away with OH at some point, any suggestions for a nice European city break that won't break the bank? We have floated the idea of Paris or Venice but we'll probably just complain that they're too touristy and expensive when we're there! :)

I'm a bit biased Birdie, but Prague is lovely for a little break and is still quite cheap (although not as cheap as 6 years ago!). Budapest wasn't too bad either, or Amsterdam. Places like Berlin or Barcelona are quite expensive though, as is Rome (from what I've heard).

Oh Archers, bad luck on the phone! How long is left on your contract?

I'm struggling for inspiration with the decluttering today, the obvious major thing I need to do it a paperwork blitz but I'm desperately trying to put it off! Maybe I just need to man up and do it!

Have almost booked a photographer today, just trying to think of a polite way of asking for a discount :o I think I can count that as a 'thing' as it is a weight off my mind! Or is that cheating? :p Maybe I should strike a deal with myself that I can count it as long as I tackle the paperwork today as well?

    Afternoon.

Off work today as Poppy had a dodgy tummy at nursery yesterday so has been banished until tomorrow. She seems fine so think it was probably teeth related.

Shrimpy - i think you deserve that box of biscuits. Exciting about the photographer too. I have been a wimp and been too scared to ask for discount on anything. Our photographer was cheaper becuase it was a week day anyway so was happy with that!

Glad the eye is getting better Ruby.

I was going to say amsterdam Birdie, havent been myself but have heard good things.

Also i have lost 3lbs in first week of diet yay.

Well done on the weightloss Wendz! :T

Thanks for the suggestions for breaks, will have a look at flights and costs and so forth. I hate this part! :o

Shrimpy, I'd count booking the photographer as a 'thing' as it's a weight off your mind and something off your list! As for the discount, just say 'Is that the best price you can do?'. Polite but they know what you're after! OH is a bartering fiend and always starts with that. Shy bairns get nowt! I got £100 knocked off my wedding dress just for asking if there was anything they could do for me :)

With the paperwork, is it worth splitting it into little piles to deal with one at a time, or say 'I will hit the paperwork for 30 minutes then have a treat' to spur you on? I know how daunting it can be (I've got piles of stuff still to deal with myself :o).
