I became a veggie earlier this year, not for sentimental bunny hugging reasons, I simply don't trust what the industry are doing to animals, the way they are treated is beyond torture. I don't eat fish because of the way the seabed is dragged by trawlers who destroy anything in their path.
I dont blame the OP's DD, good for her, the only veggies who dont get a balanced diet are those who cant cook.0

We are not a vegetarian family but bout 3 years ago my dd decided she wasn't going to eat meat as a bet with a friend (the friends mother had always been vegetarian)
She has never in her life eaten eggs (rejected them as a baby)after a couple of days she decided that she was just going to give up 'red meat' and since that day she has only eaten things with 'fins and wings!' so as I always say to people who want an explanation of this: '' she will eat an ostrich but not an alligator!''0

Please don't patronise me by calling me 'hun'. You do not know me, yet you are happy to group me as 'one of you'. What really winds me up is people who assume they know about me from one aspect of my life.
very sorry for trying to be friendly, I will remember to keep that in check in future,
by "one of you" i meant the type that is so wound up about the subject that they come out fighting instead of having a resonable conversation like Gingham Ribbon, sleepymy and a few of the others,
and if you want to talk about patronising how about a comment of yours in your original post about how difficult it would be for me to open a packet or tin and sling it in the microwave,
some days its unavoidable but most of us like to eat better than that.
you go over to the OS board and see how they feel about ready meals, especially giving them to kids.0

I had the same thing, I came home one day at 11 yo and announced that I was not eating red meat. I do eat chicken and turkey. I am now 25. What i think is that you should involve her with the cooking that way she will learn what is and isn't meat. Give her the choice of having meat in her portion before you start cooking, if not just put her portion of sauce and veggies in a small pan.
Another great piece of advice is get some kids vitamins and minerals, Meat not only contains protein, but essential vitamins minerals and iron, which are essential for growth, which is something you do a lot of when you are a kid.
If you are unsure, ask for advice from the doctor.
Finally, where has she got this decision from?, my cousin decided a few years ago that she was not eating meat, at about the same age your dd is now. she expained it was from seeing me. But in the end she could not resist bacon and sausage sandwiches. I decided after some of my food tech class, after visiting a farm and having a calf suck on my hand. I do find not eating meat difficult, especially when I am abroad.
Most of all I thing support is key. even if it is a phase. Go to the library, and find a few books for children on vegetarianism. help her find which sweets she can and can not have. This my have an impact. If she does change, try getting a few organic or free range, explaining that they have had a good life before they died, and that killing them is often more humain
 hope some of this helps

Im not a veggie and my mother is a pig farmer...but if my daughter didn't want to eat meat because she feels greatly for animals, I would totally respect and support her decision. At 7 or 70.0

My DD decided at 5 yo that she didn't want any annimals killed for her dinner. My fault, I explained what oxtail soup was made from. Anyway I told her she would have to still eat fish once a week till she was 16 as 25 years ago there was no convenience food for vegetarians. She went along with this quite happily, yes I know fish feel pain too. But I was worried about her getting everything she needed, and as I say there was not so much information available then.I used to make tofu from soya beans which was such a performance and tasted vile in my opinion. I am now going through the same thing with my 14 yo DS went veggie 18 months ago. Making him a fish hypocrite too. However 13 yo dd decided to go veggie (because he was) but only lasted a week till we had chiken in breadcrumbs. I do think you have to say either you are eating meat or not, then respect thier decision.Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination:beer:

it was the cake that she had missed, I know what gelatin is, but I couldn't give up the likes of fruit pastilles, the animals dead, you may as well not waste the creature that's been killed, use what you can.Today 11:32 AM
