They don't tell you exactly how payback is calculated, but I would expect being accepted as the right answer must help.
I'm sure people do "game" the system in the way you've suggested (and in other ways) and get appropriately rewarded for doing so.
It is clear that helping on the forums as intended produces a derisory return, so many people don't bother. Only gaming it is financially worthwhile. Hence the high proportion of junk on the forum.
Now if GG really wanted to sort this problem, it would put in the resources to do so, but it chooses not to invest.
GG has put prices up over the last couple of years, while everyone else has been putting them down. GG used to be the best value around, but now it is very uncompetitive. It could try to compete and innovate, but chooses not to.
It also doesn't seem to be investing sufficiently in infrastructure and systems to prevent well known reliability problems
In the very short term, it can just treat the current customers as a cashcow, but this is not sustainable in a highly competitive market.0 -
:rotfl: you really don't like them do you? certainly shoot at them with rather sweeping attacks at any opportunity, did one of their staff run over your cat or something?
For some people who's needs they match, they are still the best value.
The Tesco deal sounds a match but its still a rolling contract which is a bit more fiddly than PAYG.0 -
Well I was quite impressed with them at one stage.
And I still think their original concept was very innovative (and a great idea).
But I'm soooo disappointed at how they've gradually let things slide.....
A pity.0 -

Fair enough. There are a lot of still very happy customers even if quite a few things could be better (Personally I would wipe their hard drive that runs the help forum and think again)0 -

In over a year with Giffgaff in a family with 5 all on the same network, we suffered numerous (over five) service "outages" of differing lengths and a number of other problems.
For example, not being able to add credit; not being able to purchase Goddybags ..... the final straw was being unable to 'phone other family members. Forums were visited, agents were asked .... but nothing solved our problem of being unable to make a call to another family member on the same network.:(
So we joined Ovivo.
No, it's NOT perfect BUT it IS improving. :T
Six months later and ..... no "outages"; no problems in making any calls; no problems at all, in fact.
The online purchase of credit & bundles is a little more "clunky" , but works just fine AND (big "PLUS" here) you can actually phone Ovivo if you need help. (Or visit online etc.)
We needed help on setting-up one of our 'phones and they were GREAT! :T
For our family, all has been great so far .... and certainly (in our circumstances) as economical financially as Giffgaff.:j
We would though have paid more to be assured that if we 'phoned each other it would connect ..... or texts sent being received etc. which unfortunately (for us) was not the case with Giffgaff.0 -
I only got £87 or so Payback this time around (usually I'm lucky to get a tenner) because I'd been complaining! And I got an extra fiver for bringing my mum to GiffGaff.
I take pride in digesting and researching user's queries on the community, so I'm rather offended that you're implying I just focus on quantity..bloody hell, I've endured the idiots, spammers and payback chasers, and complained about it often myself!!!!I believe the maximum payback anyone can get in one month for helping others on the community is something like £30. To get that, you probably need to focus on quantity not quality of replies.
You can get additional payback by getting friends and family to join GG, but other virtual networks also have this feature eg Talk Home gives you £5 for each recommended joiner, Ovivo gives you £2
What, out of interest, is the sensationalist thread title based on? I get the feeling you just want to bash giffgaff and certain members. They are not perfect, but most of my time has been trouble-free (when not on the Community!) and it's saved me a packet, too.
PS: (Edit) I've added the blurb where GiffGaff state Payback is totalled every month, but paid out every six months, so I'm well within your £30 a month maximum limit. http://community.giffgaff.com/t5/Service-Updates-Notice-board/Monthly-Payback-Points-updates-for-2012/m-p/2731887 I had quite a bit of Kudos and Solutions, which adds up, but members tend to be coy about how Payback is gathered.
As I said, I spent a helluva time complaining as well as helping on there in the last few months; much more than previously.
Q: How is a payback abuser caught ?
A: As the forum is self-moderated, giffgaff relies on the members to report any abuse of the payback scheme.
Q: When do I receive Payback?
A: Your payback points are awarded at the end of each month but they can only be claimed every 6 months. You can then decide how you want to receive your payback, either as phone credit, as donations to chairty or even as cash directly to your PayPal account!0 -
Can anyone log on to Giff Gaff website at the moment ?
I can't .. but it might just be me0 -
