It doesn't hurt so much when they go for way more like that - it's worse when it's £50 more:mad:Mortgage OP 2025 £6750/7000Mortgage OP 2024 £7700/7000

one of the houses we bid on last year - we had the highest bid, but the sellers went with a lower bid - i think they were scared that we had not sold our house (ours went to closing the next day). That's the first time anyone involved had heard of the lower bid winning. In scotland the seller does the home survey before the house is put on the market so things tend not to go for much over the asking price now because that's the mortgage valuation. We only received £5k over our asking price of 205,000 and only bid 2k over this house asking price - but i have heard of some recent sales that are going well over again.
The dance class is full of couples where the guys are enjoying it as much as the ladies - in fact, there is only one couple where i think he has been dragged along by the wife. :rotfl:Mr P surprised me how much he enjoys it, and the drink in the pub afterwards is a nice social thing to do.
Got over £50 in TCB today for signing up to betting site and booking holiday, so will claim that and overpay it when i get paid next week. Have to look out claiming CPP with credit card and claim back receipts from daughters consult in glasgow as well as my own mileage claim - trickles of cash should help out next month...also have to send in my p60 for my second job to tax office to help sort out my tax code this year.. mortgage 2 87,000 due 51,686.76 at july 2013, but then:new home and remortgage ... £101065.43:eek: now 74k

Ooh, skint, did that happen to you??
kirsty, when we were trying to buy in Scotland, houses were going for around 20-50% over the guide price in some areas  I think we moved at the wrong time, a slump when we sold in England & a boom when we tried to buy in Scotland, but that's just typical of our luck!! :rotfl:
I think my DH would love the dance class, at the moment the only 'moves' he has are a homage to Morrissey'A watched potato will never chit'...0 -
Morning!
I think the seller having the survey in Scotland is a really good idea (this comes from my recent guzumping where that kinda stuff costs a blinking fortune!!)Mortgage starting balance 2011 ... £170k today £1.5k

On one place poppy but had one go way over and that didn't hurt nearly as much as I knew I couldn't have matched it and felt it was way over the odds. At the moment here some houses are going on or just under valuation as this makes getting a mortgage easier although I've seen a few going to closing dates again. A couple we knew years back got a flat when they put the lowest offer in as owner had stipulated in his will it should go to lowest offer as he wanted to make sure it was going to someone who would have it as a home and not just a developer snapping up lots of places.Mortgage OP 2025 £6750/7000Mortgage OP 2024 £7700/7000

what a lovely idea that was, but i wonder if the deceased family saw it like that! The house we bought last year was being sold after the elderly couple had both died. I fell in love with it on the first viewing and was careful not to be rude about the 1970s decor or how much work it needed as felt sorry for the son and was aware of trampling over his memories. It was slightly over our budget so we couldn't really offer much over the asking price and we let him know that - his sister wanted to go to closing and he talked her out of it because he felt his mum and dad would have wanted us to have it. If we had gone to closing then i reckon we would have been outbid.
Later, it turned out the old man worked in the same place as my granda - they would have known each other, I'm sure.. mortgage 2 87,000 due 51,686.76 at july 2013, but then:new home and remortgage ... £101065.43:eek: now 74k

yes it is skinty, i am certainly obsessed with money :rotfl:
Had to buy Mr P new trousers for his work, he spends a lot of time on his knees clipping wheelchairs into minibuses and every pair he has now has holes in the knees. Usually we head into town for rather pricey designer jeans, but i persuaded him into asda where we were able to use discount card and got him 2 pairs for just over £20.
I am fed up at the moment - have lost my mojo for scrimping and saving. Mr P has been looking at campervans again and we are getting very tempted. I thought the garden would keep us busy at weekends, but the weather has been cold and foggy all week, so not been able to do much. Also been feeling very middle aged lately, maybe being sensible is turning us into old fogeys?. mortgage 2 87,000 due 51,686.76 at july 2013, but then:new home and remortgage ... £101065.43:eek: now 74k

I am currently wearing my new jeans from Mr S and I love them - cost all of £16:money: Have you tried walking trouser type things for Mr P? Sometimes a bit more expensive but more rugged perhaps?

Chin upI think we all get totally fed up of scrimping from time to time. Maybe you should get yourself and little treat and then look back through your accounts / this thread and see how well you've done. :T Hopefully that will re motivate you.
