Debt free by 37, savings by 40?

Hello,
I have decided to start a diary mainly to motivate myself, keep myself sane and I can ramble incoherently as and when I need.
I left my fee charging DMP company in October and now have gone out alone - not as scary as it sounds, a bit of grrrrr from one creditor but I rode through it and came out on top. Everything is now in place and 2 payments have gone out
OH doesn't know i'm doing it myself as he would rather I stick with the DMP company, easier that way!
I have had a bit of trouble with my health the last 2 - 3 weeks, a visit to the Doc's on Monday just gone really helped, so hoping for an improvement again. Because of my health I really didn't care and spent a whole load of money:o I was £110 down, Oh gave me £50 as he really liked a couple of the bits and didn't want me to take them back so I've had my Chrissy pressie, which I thought was lovely of him. Some will be going back and bits I can't return will be going on ebay to recoup some cost.
On the Plus side I paid for my MOT and repairs with no help and it felt soooooooooooo good.
When I was dithering about leaving fee charging DMP (really should have been a no brainer!!) I set myself a target of £4600 to get my total debt down to by the end of Dec. Because I am no longer paying fees extra £55 towards debts and now my Dec payments have gone out I can proudly announce my total debt is £4457:j
£143 below target.:j
Each smiley in my signature represents a month of debt repayments (I pinched someone else's idea, hope they don't mind because I can not remember who it is.) Each month one gets removed and the debt should finish at the same time as the smileys.
I have knocked a couple of months of one debt thanks to selling on Ebay, so this hopefully will have a knock on effect on the other debt and I will have smileys left over.:)
I guess I have rambled enough, will up date when I can
Have a good day everyone

Hi Motoko
Good for you starting a shiny new diary. I love my diary, and even though its lovely getting replies, like you said, its just nice to have a place to ramble and off load. DEFINATELY helps with the Debt-Free journey.
Your thread caught my eye as I am 37 and would LOVE to be debt free and abit of savings by 40. My main aim is to get a savings pot of at least two months of hubbys wages in case he is ever out of work or ill. At the moment we have no fall back plan and if out of work, we would sink VERY fast.:(.
I luuuuuurve the smilies idea on your signature. I might well steal that idea as well if you don't mind. Quite satifying to see them slowly disappear.
Good luck and keep posting. I have subscribed to your thread, so look forward to reading about your journey. xxx0 -
Hello to Lurvlyloz and StressedSteph, nice to meet you both
Well it's Friday, it seamed soooo slow getting here! This weekend is going to be used to rest up as the side effects of the medication are starting to show, at least nausea hasn't hit me, yet!
StressSteph I'm just like you nothing to fall back on and I do agree it is worrying because I have no idea what I would do either.
I pay £350 every month on my DMP and I keep totting up how much 12 * £350 is and knowing that if I can pay that every month to creditors I could save that amount every month once I'm debt free. So theory goes!
Have a good weekend :j
What's brown and sticky? A Stick!! Sorry love this joke and been telling it all day - much to the annoyance of colleagues!!DEBT FREE on the 23rd December 2013

Had a row with the OH last night over a washing machine! Ours has been broken for 6 months and we have been using the laundrett at a cost of approx £30pm. He has enough money to buy a new one but won't, I even offered to pay him back. He won't buy one because he doesn't want to spend money on an inconveniance like that!!!
I'm damm sure a washing machine will not cost £30 a month to run:mad:
The two months council tax free were going to go on my debts (would have taken 2 months off) but could be put to better use on a new washing machine. Dilema!
Health is improving, although I could be on antidepressants for ever. Wish the constant tiredness would go away.

Morning Motoko,
Hmmmm Its tricky with the washing machine, but I don't know how you manage without it. It would definately not cost you £30 per month to run one. Is it because you take the washing to the launderette and sort it all out etc, so its no inconvenience to your OH. Mine often says no to things and I figure its because its not him having the pain doing it.
The old me would say "Get one out of the catalogue and pay it back over a few months", but doubt that is very MSE. and you probably are not allowed to have any new credit on your DMP.
Can you work it, so he has to take the washing to the launderette a few times and then see if he changes his mind. When he has sat there for a few hours he might come round to the idea.
On the subject of jokes I heard a great one last night:-
What is the most common owl in the UK?
A Teat-owl.
:rotfl:
a Tea-towel
Do you get it. hahahaha I laughed so hard0 -
Hi Steph,
You won't believe this but he actually does not mind going to the launderette!!!!! We both go as it's both of ours washing.
Have made up my mind though a new mashing machine is going to appear in the new yearish!
I really never want credit again and never be a DFW again. Been in the red since I was 18 (35 now!) and I really am looking forward to the splendid sparkles when I can save big time
Your joke is brilliant :rotfl: will annoy people with it later, thank youDEBT FREE on the 23rd December 2013

Sometimes I think life would be more simple without family! Had a row with sister last night, she was moaning again how skint they are and how its unfair they can't do things they want. I suggested that they stop buying all the latest gadgets (house is full of them) to which I got a gobfull!! The joke is they want to move but can't even get a loan and she doesn't see how this could be related as Quote ' a loan is different from a mortgage and I wouldn't know because I rent' I beg to differ:)
In a way it reminded me that I used to be that way and now i'm on the road to a better place:)
During the row health came up and I realised I have not been to the dentist in 2 years (though the last time I went it cost me £200 in fillings:() So I have decided to start a health box and find £15 to put in each month this should cover my prescriptions and enable me to go to the dentist at least for a check up, then maybe hygenist (love the scrapey thing they do - so relaxing:) )
Free fitness lesson tonight so looking forward to that

Morning Motoko,
It sounds like your sister obviously has'nt had her Lightbulb Moment yet, but it will come. Leave her to it, it does'nt sound like she is in a place to like to any advice right now. Don't let it make you feel bad.
The health box is a good idea, it could cover prescriptions, dentist etc.
I need a box for about six different things but they are all empty at the moment . Nevermind, keep plodding. We will get there. xx0 -
Sooo the plan's for a washing machine could be going down the spout - car needs to go to garage
Two days of work left and then a week and a bit of doing stuff, actually want to try baking something and have the ingredients for cheese biccies so may give them ago along with some honeycombe and a couple of crumbles.
Get paid tomorrow and still have £30 left - not much but it's a hell of a lot more than I used to have leftover - this actually makes me feel like I am doing something right for a changeI like it:j
Steph - your owl joke has been voted the worst in the office - I'm soooo proud:rotfl:DEBT FREE on the 23rd December 2013

Have you tried your local Freecycle for a washing machine? You maybe able to get one for free if you can collect it. x x:heart: 'The time is now.'0
