Thanks for all your help and advice. In the end went with parcelpete.com and used the 10% off code posted here, thanks. In the end I thought I'd pay a bit more as I'm already late with this order and give the buyer next day delivery as he's been really patient and understanding and I also tore part of the box of the item I'm sending - did email him to make sure he was ok with it before going through with the order but he said it didn't matter.
Ah well ended up at just over £7 inc VAT. Cheers0 -

Oliverr. The 3-5 working day service generally takes 3-5 working days. Hermes working days are Monday to Saturday. Don't book through P2G though, it's far eaier to book directly with Hermes at www.myhermes.co.uk . It means when there's a problem you don't have to contact them through P2G each time.
ParcelPete is quite a good service, and take a look at www.parcelmonkey.co.uk , they have some very attractively priced City Link and DX services.
As a one time self employed courier driver, there were times when one had to point out that the delivery address's ridiculous internal procedures were not my problem, so would the "jobsworth" muppet like to phone my customer and explain why I could not make the delivery [having made a journey of xx miles]. Needless to say a true "jobsworth" would attempt to refuse so I would suggest that perhaps they would like to use my phone that just happened to be set to film and record.
I think it was with an ASDA "customer services" desk that I got as far as "the choice is yours, the options are (a) you take this parcel here, (b) you persuade your colleagues in goods inwards, who have not gone home, that they can accept the delivery or (C) I throw it over the locked gate."
Somehow the goods inwards operatives were persuaded it was not POETS day after all.0 -
Hi, I use Myhermes drop off but have not been able to get on their new website since its launch so have been booking via Parcel2go, however I noticed on Topcashback a company called Myparceldelivery which seems to be similar to P2G. I've not heard of them before but am thinking of using them as they offer cashback. Anyone else used them?0

The basics are they negotiate cheap courier rates because of their customer volume, clever business but its my understanding that the larger carriers like Fedex and DHL hate it, thats why they have requested them to remove their logos from their sites.
Getting back to the point, it's whatever fits the hole, try and find a reseller that uses premium carriers and offer the same price as the e-sellers, this way you get the premium service at a saving, however most premium carriers have pulled out of e-selling and stuck with the b2b resellers like Transglobal, World Options, Inexpress.0 -
DXFreight do large items and so do TNT. Its the volumetric weight that you need to worry about. 90cm can be handled by most couriers, ok perhaps leaving out Myhermes, it might be difficult fitting it into a Mondeo.0

Thats what happens when you skimp on delivery, try paying an extra £ for a competent delivery service, your customer retention will improve. We changed from City Link to UPS for a savings of £0.10 using a reseller priced at £6.10 for up to 30 kgs. YES thats right, Worlds biggest courier at loooow prices. All I'm saying is shop around and don't just use the companies that are on the tele or who bribe Ebay and Amazon.0

Could you share amongst us who the reseller is that is offering UPS 30Kg (assuming this is UPS standard) at £6.10? Also what are their liability cover rates?
Just to say - whilst I have praised clickandsendparcel.com in the past - I have had some awful episodes with UPS recently. I have had several parcels trashed by them - with two claims ongoing. These I should point out are industrial quality goods - built like the proverbial brick **** house and cocooned in bubblewrap and double wall cartons. It is clear they have been dropped / thrown. Images from that eye-opening documentary spring to mind...
Currently I have one nightmare delivery. They failed to collect on the day it was booked for. It was then 'missed' at a depot - then they failed to deliver to the address because - and wait for this - the Flat number was not in the correct field! So even though it was printed on the address label the driver would not deliver it!! It is now three days late - and who knows if they will deliver it today - and what condition it will be in after it's extensive 'travels'. This has left me wide open to negative feedback on eBay - so thanks for that UPS
Suffice to say if I don't get a good outcome on these issues I will have no choice but to look again at my choice of courier.0 -

Take a look at opening an account with Yodel. Previously they're had an appalling reputation, but recently they seem to have cleared up their act massively, and now have a better reputation than most on TrustPilot. They're known for offering good prices to small volume regular senders.
If you look at TrustPilot under parcel delivery you'll notice all the brokers have quite good reviews, but that's mainly because when something goes wrong people generally blame the carrier more than the agent, not because the service is better.0
