If anything goes wrong you have to get compensation from the broker. This can be more complicated as you are not dealing directly with the carrier. However once Fedex or UPS pick it up they are likely to be quite reliable in getting it to its destination.
You need to check the carriers' insurance exclusions carefully to be sure it will be covered, as you will find there are many more exclusions than Royal Mail for instance.
Where is the item going? If it is within the EC you may find your quotes do not include VAT. If outside the EC there is no VAT to pay but the recipient may have import tax and duties to pay and you will have to print out several copies of the invoice or details of contents and value for customs clearance. Fedex I think give you a choice of whether you or the recipient pays - it is normal to ask the recipient to pay.0 -
It is going to Argentina. It's mostly clothes. Does the invoice have to be very precise? I've already sent a box from Spain through their postal service (Correos) and when I declared it was something like 10 pieces of clothing rather than 2 jeans, 5 t-shirts, 2 shirts. They were able to receive it without any tax payment at that moment. Could it be different because it is being sent from the UK?
Spain is in the EU so there were no customs charges for items from the UK. Argentina will have its own rules so there may well be fees payable, just as there would be here if it was sent in the opposite direction.0 -
I would declare the items in detail. They will probably only look at the total cost but if they want it broken down into individual items it is there.

It should be near enough the same. If it's the same value of stuff, then there'll still be nothing to pay at the other end, however last time you should have filled in the customs forms better.0

I notice most of the discussion is concerned with weight. I need to post an item that is longer than the PO's max of 90cm. They are packs of intumescent strips, in 5s, so the packet is no more than 280gms but will be about 106cm long, in effect, a long, light flexible tube.
I apologise if I'm in the wrong place or it's been answered umpteen times over but any advice would be welcome.

Hi
Can anyone advise on sending a breadmaker to Isle of Colonsay?
I don't want to use My Hermes after my last delivery got damaged. Any other reasonable couriers?
I usually use UPS but the price is too high

I used CityLink through collectmyparcel.com.
I have to say though that despite being securely wrapped in a cardboard tube, CityLink did manage to drop something on the parcel and bent it in transit - necessitating an insurance claim which was a pain.I'd be happier on holiday in Brittany than being at work !0 -
No idea how this will pan out but my parcel (a 2kg box sent to Amazon Returns in Dunfirmline) hasn't been delivered my MyHermes (the parcel2go tracking stopped 4 days ago).
It turns out that their courier cannot find Amazon so the box simply returned to their depot where it has been for the last few days.
Anyone know the Amazon facility? Is it hidden away? parcel2go operator needed a phone number for Amazon so they could ask for directions!!0 -
I think you'll find that the Hermes courier isn't allowed into the facility to deliver the parcel.0
