To be honest, compared with some other carriers, that is 'handled with care' **cough**hdnl**cough**.

I can't post the photos in case it identifies my sale, but if you could see what MyHermes managed to do with a well packed solidly boxed item of mine last week you would cry. It has to have been run over as box is split and all the myriads of tape around the outer has been torn off.

If you'd seen how parcels are loaded onto lorries. They're pretty much launched from high speed conveyors!!! Always pack exceptionally well.

I sell mainly china and glass and much of it gets shipped to Australia with no problems. I would have been happy To have dropped this parcel from chest height onto a concrete floor, but I cannot pack well enough for what looks like something has pressed down on the box whilst at the same time manually removed half a roll of parcel tape securing the box and opening the box.

The box was opened on arrival and looked like it had been run over.

They all have their moments, I rave about UPS, but they still managed to smash an alloy wheel, but generally they're ok.

That documentary should wake up a few people re packaging, and the need to pack expecting it to be flug into the lorry.

    My reply is this.

Most people who do complain on the internet ARE at home when their parcel doesnt arrive. Do these people have no just cause fo been unhappy?

Next and sorry if it causes offense, dont blame the paying customers. Blame your boss if the work conditions are unreasonable, eg. if I pay for pre noon delivery thats when I expect it, its not my fault if the deliveries are not organised properly.

Also its damn near impossible to ring a depot, and many courier companies dont allow pickups, I expect if they did there would be less angry customers.

    You completely misunderstand my posting.

I am self employed I don't have a boss. If I am offered a job that is too awful, I would just say I was not available and not do it.

As an independent observer I get called in when firms are unable to cope with their work load. Often the improvements that could be made are self evident but the workers are alienated from their work and/or are in no way empowered to change their own methods of working. The alternative is a powerful union (not much chance of that) but that would organise the parcel service for the benefit of its employees, not its users.

In a "casualised" industry the only organisations with any power ARE the customers of the parcel companies - you sitting at home waiting for a parcel are not the customer. Since the development of the penny post the customer nearly always is your supplier, so you complain to them and they complain to the parcel company.
  • I'm confused too.... I recently bought something off eBay for £10.95 including 'Free' postage. It was large (500mm X 500mm X 500mm) but light (0.3kgs), 'do you know what it is yet'???

Made enquiries at Royal Mail, ParcelForce and others mentioned here. Cheapest PF would send was £11.50 and was too big for the other couriers.

My question is, How can the guy I bought from buy, sell, post and make a profit? Admittedly he seems to shift a lot of items but must be getting a mega-discount!! PF couldn't/wouldn't tell me how much I'd need to shift to get the same.....

    Thoughts/experiences please!!

The best answer is he probably uses Yodel. Not unheard of for them to offer £2 - £2.50 per parcel.

My sister asked me to send a plate rack to Malaysia. dimensions of box 35 *55 * 50 cm but it on;y weighs around 3kg max.

Just been to the Post Office who say they could do it Parcel Force - £77. Tried online and they're quoting £129 +++. I get the impression they're making assumptions about weight from dimension which are completely erroneous.

At that rate I could hand deliver it!

    Looking for a reasonable alternative
