All I want for Christmas is an Aldi and a Home Bargains

  • Our nearest supermarket is a Morrisions 10 miles away. There is also a very small Lidl in the same town but its not all that great.

I make the 50 mile round trip to Aldi once a fortnight. This is also where the nearest Asda and Tesco are and there are Home Bargains and Poundland there too. I have discovered that I can fill the car up with petrol a lot cheaper while I am there so that helps to make the trip worthwhile.

I have never been to Ikea! Our nearest is about 60 miles away and have never bothered to go there.
  • No Home Bargains near me either and the nearest Aldi is not that close. Waitrose and Lidl are the 2 closest to me.

We haven't done bad in Barnsley, we have a Wilkos, a couple of Poundlands, 99p store, Home Bargains (well it's called Quality Save, but it's the same place, dunno why it's a different name) and a Morrisons all in the town centre.
We lots of charity shops too, but I think those are a bit dear tbh. We also have just outside town, Dunelm Mill, Aldi, and a B&M (which has the worst car park ever!!) Fortunately it's next to Tesco, so you can park there.
Only grumble is that the nearest IKEA is Leeds, but you can't have everything I suppose :rotfl:;):D

    I've been Money Tipped!
I actually did a little happy dance when I saw Aldi advertising for jobs here, not least cos DS1 is being made redundant from his apprenticeship next month.

So we will have within walking distance:
    Tesco Metro, M & S foodhall, Iceland, 99p shop, co-op
    Longer walking (30mins) or bus:
    Sainsbury's, Lidl and Aldi.
The country's largest Morrisons is also being built on my way home (walking) from work and a Waitrose is going through planning, 5 minutes away :)
Another Waitrose in next town, huge tesco 15 min bus ride away, Sainsbury's (mini) a little further. IKEA 20 mins away in Cov.

Not too shabby for a little town, and countryside literally 10 mins walk away. We also have a healthy(ish) high street with several butchers, green grocers and a fishmonger still, so the argument against supermarkets doesn't really hold water.

Oh and loads of charity shops. ( I got my genuine Prada for £40 in Oxfam)

Aldi is rubbish.. full of brawling scrotes here.. they have bouncers!!!! Proper ones, like a night club.. not the doddering old men they have in tesco.

Home Bargains.. is a tat shop.. honestly, I have rarely seen such a pile of junk.. Go to a car boot, it is better quality rubbish for your pennies!

You're not missing anything at all.

I feel guilty, I have 5 Home Bargains within a mile or two of my house :D they are great, sometimes we go trawling around all of them looking for bargains because they all have slightly different stock :D
